What pickups did Doug Aldrich use in dio?

I wanna know what amps he was using, none of those on stage were plugged in.

are you sure? I heard he did use DSL100's on that tour rather than shipping his amps over

There's three amps on stage and none of the three have cables of any kind going into their jacks, so I'd guess he's using something else backstage or he's enough of a guitar god that he doesn't need amps?

At 1:19 you can clearly see the two heads closest to the drummer with no cables, and about 3:20 you can see the third.

I think they were the Suhr SSV+'s or SSH+'s, before his signature p'ups came out. Prior to that he mainly used SD Customs.
As far as amps.... On Holy Diver Live where he filled in last minute for Craig Goldy it is a DSL (yes - from his website if you can believe it) with a Fulltone2 OD.
On the other DVD- Evil or Divine is it??- A Martin Golub/John Suhr modded Marshall 78 JMP for the rhythms, and a Cameron modded Marshall 71 Superlead for leads.
He uses a PQ3 and/or a Fulltone 2OD for boost, and a Roland 3000 for delay.
He also runs a wet/dry/wet set-up...
Hope that helps
Here is a shot of his old rig..

I saw some shots of his current rig - think he now has a Marshall JVM in it as well, perhaps in place of the Standel?
He is also using a Modded V-Rock (Voodoo amps)

thanks for the info. Any idea on the single coils? To me that is one of my fave strat rock sounds

I read on this board that back when he was using single coil strats, he had Duncan 'customize' the classic stacks to make them a little beefier or something. I'm pretty sure that's right.

Also, those "fake" stacks are owned by Dio. I met Doug for a brief second and he told me that.

I wonder if he and Reb use fake stacks with Whitesnake as well. Since Doug has 4 visible amps on stage, but usually use 2, and Reb has 2 modded Marshalls (with the "depth/bass" knob) and has 3 visible amps, and all of their "real" amps probably are racked anyway..... hmmm :D

Not that it matters in any way, it looks cool, and they have a cool sound.

Doug used two Marshall DSL100s for that tour. Before going to Suhr, Doug used Seymour Duncan Custom Custom pups in the bridge position of his Les Pauls. Not sure about his strats.

on a unrelated/related note - anyone know what Craig Goldy used on

I heard he had a Holdsworth in the bridge of his strat. ;)

Yeah I think it was the black strat that he used to be play with dio had one of those.

Yep - the black one had a Holdsworth, and the old Cream Charvel had a Bill Lawrence

The LP's all had duncan Alnico II Pros in the bridge and stock neck humbuckers/Duncan 59's back during Evil or Divine live. Strats had Duncan Holdsworth buckers in the bridge and modded Classic Stacks. I know this for a fact as me and my friend Marco spoke with Doug in person about it and he gave us all the info! :)

BTW on that Dio Holy Diver Live show, i was there in person and hung out with Doug after the show. He said he used that DSL-100 Wet/Dry/Wet, by sending the lineout of the DSL into his Delay and chorus, then into the FX returns of the two JCM900s. He boosted the front end with a Fulltone Fulldrive2. FWIW, Doug absolutely hated the tone and really dislikes that DVD. That DSL was a rented amp, and its tubes seriously needed changing.

The LP on that show had the prototype Suhr pickup in the bridge, and i believe he had a Duncan 59 in the neck but wasnt happy with it. He said he had been swapping out pickups near enough ever couple of shows, trying to find the right tone for that neck position.. but couldnt find anything perfect. So John Suhr started working on a custom neck pickup for him a few months after this show.

The strat had the same pickups as always (Holdsworth/Mojo stacks)

Here comes an OLD thread revival...the Holy Diver tone is way better IMHO than Evil or Divine... Jesus he sounds JUST like Vivian Campbell on Holy Diver. Insane !

I've read that Graig also liked those old Marshall Valvestate amps.
