Hey guys -

wondering if any of you are using a powered loudspeaker on stage to use with your Axe Fx or other processor and if so which one is it? I saw someone using an EV SX A250 but those are discontinued. Wondering if you have any recommendations.

Thanks

I don't do axefx stuff but if I did, I would get the new Full range cabs Dave Friedman is coming out with. They sound like something special from the way Dave has described them.....also if Dave puts his name on it and his designs, you know you're getting something that will sound awesome.

Depends really on what you want or perhaps are used to. If you never used powered speakers as your amp line then you may hate it, or it will take a while to get accustomed to.

Don't fall for bullshit that your modeler with FRFR powered speakers will do what a nice 212 or 412 back- line cab will. It will not. It will sound kind of like your amp mic'd up and played back through a powered speaker.

I like digital gear, but I am not fond of powered speakers for my sound. I am hard line guitar cab back-line so I will use a host of different power amps and actual guitar cabs with the Fractal etc. That way if I use a 4x12 or 2x12 cab I can still get similar results of a traditional rig. I just could never get a good sound out of a CLR wedge, or QSC K12 for a guitar amp. So far with standard cabs and tube power amp I can get good amp emulations from modelers. Standard cabs and power amps can give back the feel where the powered speaker is more removed from usual chug and thunder from big cabs.

Atomic CLR Active Wedges.
They're fkn awesome.
I also use them as floor monitors, recording monitors, I pump my SD2.0 tracks through them when solo jamming, etc.
Built like brick shithouses, awesome internal amplification, clear, and transparent.
I really like 'em.

I used a QSC KW122 when I gigged with an axefx . I liked it and heard myself really well .

Dave Friedman has a powered speaker that he says does get a cab thump
They are actually cheaper than CLR by 150 200
