hey everyone I have an older peavey 4x12 slant cab I think its about a 1990 it has the orginal sheffield speakers in it. I use a 6505+ head and play in a pop punk band. any ideas what speakers would be good?

WGS Reaper? Eminence Texas Heat? Check out some of the tones you like and research what was used to produce them.

Lots of speakers would be good. The ones in there are good. Doesn't mean you'll like them, but they are "good". Most likely it has the Sheffield 1290 speakers. I have used that cab with a 6505+ and thought it sounded good. I also played my 6505+ with Mesa recto cabs and they sounded good too. Not better to me, just different. I ended up getting rid of the Mesa cabs and kept the Peavey cabs. If by tweaking the knobs on the amp you still can't get the tone you want out of those speakers then start bringing your amp to some music stores or buddies houses(if possible) and try some others until you find what you like tone wise. Also, if after tweaking what your running now, right down what your trying to get but the speakers you have aren't giving you. Will be easier for someone to help recommend another speaker.

WGS Reaper? Eminence Texas Heat? ive never heard of them i will have to check them out, yea i was looking at v30s. i was even thinking of getting new sheffield's these ones are old and have a ton of hours on them. I know alot of people have been using recto cabs with the 6505+. There is so many choices just dont know where to go haha.

That is probably considered by most to be a good thing. Speakers are like a pair of jeans or shoes. I can't think of any speaker that sounds better before it's broken in a bit. Especially true for V30's. V30s are by the way my favorite also. Not because alot of people use them but because of the way they sound to me with my amp. A 6505+/Mesa recto cab is a pretty common combination. I tried it myself. What is it that you don't like about the speakers you have? Too gritty? Not enough mids? Not smooth enough? It would help us recommend something.

The 6150 is basically a rebranded 5150, right? The 5150 and Sheffields were designed for each other. I'd use the Sheffields, unless for some reason you don't like them. Don't assume they're crappy speakers. EVH used them for years in his 5150 cabs.

If you want something that's just a different sound and feel, I'd suggest V30s or Warehouse 30s.

I dont know i guess id say not smooth enough and lacking a bit of mids, but on the other hand the speakers are 20 plus years old have have alot of hours on them. I was thinking of getting a set of v30s and see what I think.
