I'm set on actual guitar amps for rock n roll and whatever else, but a new project has / had me needing an actual acoustic amp rig for acoustic plugged in gigs. Really didn't want to tie up more money in an amp that will be used sparingly. A moment of clarity resulted and I thought about the fact that most all acoustic amps are solid state deals, so what about that much maligned Katana? would it? could it? Turns out it can and it does, in spades...best part is you can buy those things used for about the price of a pedal. I found a near brand spankin' new Katana 50 watt 1x12 combo for $125 on Craigslist and will say for what it will be used for and how good it sounds with my acoustic its the score of the year.....I've owned a couple actual nicer acoustic amps prior and this $125 bargain is easily on par with them. Set it in the acoustic amp or even the clean setting and its straight up awesome. Only thing lacking is a direct out to be used to a soundboard but I can just mic it. This amp is worth it for the acoustic feature alone, especially on the used market. Blown away.

Nice man!

The katana is fine sounding for a practice amp (certainly better than what I had as a kid) but I think the reason it's "much maligned," as you say, is mostly due to the endless, boundless, inconceivably massive hype by YouTube shills and beginners everywhere.

This is actually a very, very good idea for someone who needs an acoustic amp for gigging and doesn't want to shell out a bunch of cash - acoustic amp's resale value is worse than a new car - and you can pick up a katana for 100-150$ and sell it for the same.

Exactly! Agree with everything you wrote 100%. I want another Wizard or hell maybe even a Lenz amp after hearing those, but I don't need to sink a bunch of cash into an acoustic amp. I might even step it up and spend another $50 to get into a used 100watt combo version as that's where the dedicated line out is, but gimme a break, I'm blown away how good this thing sounds specifically for its use as an acoustic guitar amp.

If I ever have to do an acoustic gig, I'm totally doing this. Built in fx, too!
