I picked up this Charvel Fusion a few months ago, and it's been sitting on the back burner of guitar projects ever since I got it. The electronics are all jacked up, and the neck humbucker has a dead coil. I reached out to Dave at Frets on the Net to get one of the oversized humbucker rings made for the bridge, and decided to have him make two of them thinking that I might route the neck position for another humbucker and wanted the rings to match.

What say you? Double full size humbuckers or stay with the single coil in the neck? All honestly, I'll probably end up selling it eventually as it's short scale (24.75") and 24 frets so I don't know if making it a dual full size humbucker will hurt it when/if I go to resell it. Doesn't leave much real estate between the pickups for those of us that tend to pick deep and hit stuff under the strings.

If you are going to end up selling it then I would just put another single in the neck and be done with it. No sense in putting more $$$ into something that you aren't all that interested in keeping.

Good point. However, I don't currently have any singles that would fit that particular route. So, I'd have to buy a single to put in there if I left it stock or just sell it as is without a working neck pickup. The X2N in the bridge is good, and I have several buckers laying around that I could throw into the neck if I went the double full sized hum route.

I may not end up selling it, it's all going to depend on how it plays/sounds/feels when it's all said and done. Historically speaking, I'm not a huge fan of 24 fret guitars when they are 25.5" scale. I'm thinking that the shorter scale may make it a bit more comfortable. I'm just thinking that I need a head check before I go and do something that's irreversible.

I'd leave it be, personally. Those are nice guitars and desirable (I'm always sorta looking for them), and routing would definitely hurt the resale.

The shorter scale is fun. I'm use to it with Gibsons, but those tend to have thicker necks, shorter frets, and bulky heels. With these Superstrats with thin necks, huge frets, and easy access, it's almost like it's too easy to play. If I really need to nail something or am just having a bad day with playing, I can reach for a Jackson Fusion or NightSwan and be good to go.

Holy Cow! After you mentioned desirable, I looked at Reverb to see what these are going for. Are those prices legit, or are these folks on crack?!

I have always wanted to try one or a night swan…that scale works for me…

I'd leave the Single in the Neck. Why go lengths if you're just going to dump it?

That might be the same Fusion Deluxe I have. Head stock is also sparkly blue, white logo. Great sounding guitar, mine paired well with a SD Distortion. Stock Jackson pickup sounded weird but apparently ppl dig em, I got some bucks for it.

You would route into the cutaway and have a pickup ring there? I don’t see how that’s going to work.

The route wouldn't interfere with the cut away. The ring would be right there, but still clear it from what I'm seeing.

I think I'm going to go with the general consensus, and leave the single.
