What wah do I want?

I have never been a wah player. I've grabbed cheap Vox and Crybabies here and there, once a Morley, and never found a practical application for them in my playing. This is mostly because the things sound so damn piercing to me.

I want to find a wah that has a deep and throaty sound, not harsh when cocked, and adds that liquid sound/feel to leads. It will be used from light breakup to heavy fuzz and high gain, never really do pristine cleans in my music. I'll also use it to add that shoegaze swoosh to certain chords.

I'm looking towards the Crybaby Cantrell wah at the moment, or the CAE wah with the red fasel. How do these two compare to each other? What other wahs are out there for me? I'm trying to stay in the 150 buck range, so no RMCs for me.

Snag a used RMC3 off of ebay. There's one up right now at $99, probably won't go for more than $150 tops.

original Budda Bud Wah. (*Paypal gift always works for my advice LOL)

can only speak for myself but every wah would get the same amount of use as my current ones

sorry no help at all :D

Ill throw a vote out there for the Cantrell wah. I absolutely love mine.

I'll throw out a vote for a Teese RMC. I have an RMC2, and I hear the 3 is better.

The Teese RMC 10 is IMO the finest, most vocal sounding wah available.

I like my cae wah but it is upsetting that you have to open e thing to change the trim pots which you don't have to do on the dime wah

Evh wah. Cantrell isn't the best with leads as your description

i say, try a Crybaby 535Q. it has the six settings for different sweep-range caps, including the stock Crybaby value, the Cantrell wah value, and the Hendrix wah value. it also lets you tweak the Q of the wah peak, which is one of the most common mods that people do. spending a few months playing one of those would at least give a good feel for what sort of values of those components work for you.

^^agree. Get the switchless option through Dunlap. I got mine in a week. There is a lot that goes into a good wah tone other than the wah itself.

Why is that?

cuz I didn't think it sustains that well. Has a cool contour and tone, but there are other wahs that are more easy to play leads over. just my opinion. I don't own the EVH wah, but played a friends the other day. It was pretty slick. I own the Morley Tremonti. and love it. Used to play the Mission Rewah pro...also a cool wah, and good tone, but I needed a fly now option and the push down to activate on most wahs is something i can't do live with the songs we write. That's why the morley stuff is best in my situation.
