What's a good budget rack EQ?

I need an equalizer that's good for high-gain on a budget price, maybe around 100 USD, but I'm open to any deals. It's going in the loop of an Ampeg VH140C rig geared towards death metal, and graphic/parametric doesn't matter if it's the right price. What's out there? I've only had graphic EQ pedals, never a rack EQ.

You can find cheap ass Behringer shit and whatnot, but I have no clue how transparent they are. I had some cheap $60 31 band EQ that I bought from MF about 9 years ago. It was mediocre... I wouldn't recommend the BBE. Honestly, if you can find it cheap enough, the TC 1128 would be your best bet. They generally go for around $150 to $300 though.

I've had excellent luck with the ART 341/351 models, and those can be found on the cheep. The 341 is a stereo 15-band and the 351 is a mono 31-band.

A BBE is a "Phase EQ" -- basically it inserts minuscule delay times in between different sound frequencies so they don't all hit the speaker at the same time. In my experience it's hit/miss with those depending on your sound--it can wonderfully enhance it or brutally destroy it. I'd borrow one first to see.

Cheers,

Try to find an old Rocktron Pro Q
You can find them around 150.
Killer EQ for what you want.

I've seen Peavey 31 band 2 channel EQs on ebay owned by DJs in the 90s for £50 a fair few times.

There's a fair few washed up/retiring sound engeneers selling off their racks in parts as well, get whatever's cheap, you could strike gold.

One of my best friends and guitar buddies has the BBE, I personally think it sounds very post-studio sounding but kinda sterile, does next to nothing at higher volumes though, I think he plans to just keep it for reccording and that's it (Neighbours + Home reccording)

He stopped using his BBE rack after one gig in his live setup, reverted back to pedals.

That ART EQ351 looks like a winner, but I've been thinking about getting a G Major soon for effects, so would the EQ on the G Major be comparable to an external EQ? There's no need for both if the G Major can do the job and more.

The G-Major can do it.

i have found that "high gain" and "EQ" don't go together, especially with "budget". nothing worked for me and be prepared to deal with the noise. with enough gating, it maybe ok, but it defeated with purpose.
