I'm looking at synth pedals & am wondering is there anything better than the Ehx Micro Synth? I prefere a polyphonic pedal, but am willing to consider any cool sounding synth pedal.

That's the best I have seen short of adding a GK or some other sort of MIDI device, but I don't think the Micro Synth is polyphonic. Get an EH POG for if you want to go more in a polyphonic direction, you can get organ like tones out of those. Also worth checking out is the EH HOG. Check out the EH website, they should have links to demos of their pedals that will give you a good idea of how they sound. They have a series of youtube vids called "Effectology" that cover how you can combine those pedals to get some really cool sounds, like this vid where they recreate the Blade Runner theme...

or Moog-ish sounds on the micro synth

POG for more of a polyphonic approach...

Another option is a Digitech Space Station, it can do nice polyphonic string/like swells. These can be a bit hard to find though since they weren't in production long. There are a few youtube demos you can check out.

The only downside to these pedals is that by the time you get a few of the EH pedals you probably aren't far off from the cost of a Roland Guitar synth. The biggest challenge with the Guitar Synth is that the GK pickups don't fit on many guitars, especially on models that have little or no space between the bridge and bridge pickups. The benefit from the individual pedal route is that you don't have to make any mods to your guitar. If you want to emulate pianos and other common key sounds the guitar synth is the way to go, but if you are more into analog/ambient tones then the EH gear is pretty cool, so it really depends on what sounds you are after.

For me, the solution was a GR33 guitar synth. I had the MIDI pickup installed on a Parker Fly Classic but took it off after I got a Fernandes guitar. I'll be installing the GK pickup on the Fernandes to see how it responds to a sustainer guitar. Should be fun.
