Snagged one of these yesterday for a
Killer price. For the price/Tone ratio, you
can't beat it!! Smokin' early Slash, Metallica
VH, Ozzy etc...Tone in this box.
Not a Bad Amp to bring to practice
and BEAT the Snot's out of.
Let me hear your opinions, Curious.
Rick

Cool amp. I prefer them EL34s over 5881s though. Both flavors exist.

I had a modded SLX and it kicked ass on all levels!

Never heard the stock one......but if its a good bang for the buck....why not right?

Yeah Wiz,
It's loaded with EL-34's which I prefer
the sound of.

Who modded the one you had, Jerry (FJA)?

The one I had was modded by Brent Guiterrez. Sounded simply killer.
Very very mean sounding. Like "ride the lightning" straight into the amp.

Never played one personally, but supposed to be eleventy billion times better than the JCM900 4100 of the same era. Wasn't the SL-X designed to compete with the increasingly popular Mesa Dual Rectifier that had just come out?

Way cool amp, I never should have sold mine. The slx has tons of gain on tap. It's single channel with two masters and doesn't really clean up but for everything but clean tones it's a great one. Mine was also the el34 version.

I had the 50 watt version and it had the tone but the bass was real flubby. Good amp for the $$ and even better if you know how to mod it to tighten up the bottom end.

gutierrez tighten up mine (mailman borrowed it for a while). i love it. but i loved the stock ones when they first came out. it was one of the first stock marshalls that did the brutals when you plugged straight in.
