I picked one up pretty cheap to try out. Can't try it out today though.
Just curious...do any old DOD users like this one, or is it a not-so-great reissue?

I have it but, I've never used it. Yngwie's my fave and it was cheap enough. Let me know how you like it.

ugh!

I have 7 days to try it.

Don't know that I would go as far as "ugh", that pedal is more like "meh".

Well one man's "meh" could be another man's "hmm"

It makes you SHRED!!!!!!! I know a guy that does a mod that I met on the Metro forum and makes it like a grey spec OD250 if you wanna do a mod :D

I have one and think its pretty cool. Either both knobs around 2:00 or level up full with gain about 9:00. It's not that different from a Distortion +.

It sounds best with a full stack though.

i have one...collecting dust.think i pd $35.its pretty noisy.

night and day compared to the original Grey250, more brighter and not as full, still a little noisy, but i still think they are pretty cool for the price and sorta have a treble booster vibe to them. bubbly arpeggios on neck strat position . sounds really transparent through a turned up marshall.

I've got a yellow reissue that could use a mod or something. I was less than impressed by it.
I also picked up one of those DOD FET Preamp pedals recently too and was not too thrilled either.

I just had 10 minutes to screw with it and I know I like it already. It does something that no other pedal I have does so it will be nice to keep around....I may gig with it actually, it's pretty cool.
It rolls off some lows and adds a lot of highs. I think it's voiced very well. It has a nice stringiness and nice feel to it. I really like how the guitar sounds when rolling back on the volume, it keeps that sparkle and doesn't darken out.

Greazygeo you're bang on, that is how I'd run it in front of an amp with some nice mid-gain.
Within one minute I settled on the volume cranked and the gain at 9:00 (before I even read what you posted, I was going to suggest those settings too)

This is a pedal where you're either gonna dig it a lot for what it does...or you aren't. It works really nice in front of a vintage, mid-gain type of distortion. This pedal will add the nice high mids, hair and pick attack.

I'm surprised...It's very cool.

I set mine line pretty much dimed and gain the same, I like it and the louder you go the better it is. Softens up the 77 JMP 4 hole when I use the yngwie clone as well.

I got it from NOrway's newest guitar hero Chubtone so it has extra mojo.

I really like them with a strat. They make my strat sound so beefy it's crazy. I have a stock one and one modded by a guy named John Evosevic. Evosevic is a Malmsteen fanatic and was obsessed with finding the exact right recipe that was in Yngwie's old gray DOD pedal. He focused on Yngwie early tones. He said he looked inside and listened to lots of the old gray ones before hitting on what he thinks is the right combination of parts. He said the old gray ones varied quite a bit. I think you can find John on the Metro board. He goes by the name Outlier.

I think it's great, especially if you can handle a soldering iron and take 20 minutes and 2 part replacements to mod it to gray 250 specs for a more midrange tone. Very easy... The 1979 version is my favorite. I elected not to do the so-called mojo mod that would require re-jumpering the PCB to make it work with a 741 op amp. I used a 1458 instead (dual 741 op amps inside with same specs) to preserve the existing chip pinout. It sounds 100% identical to the DIY gray spec 250 Overdrive clone that I made with the 741 chip. No difference at all. Next I plan on changing out the stock DC jack to a standard (negative center pin) 2.1mm Boss style, and true bypass 3PDT footswitch with red LED on/off indicator.

yep thats a great analysis. Yngwie gave one to Joe Satriani on that G3 tour thing, and he had it on his pedal board i noticed his cleaner tones sounded more open and strattier. the only thing is that u really have to been turn up live in a band to make it cut, hence the reason why ive always wanted a pedal that could do what a ts-808/dod250 could do in one pedal.

you're a great player, so im sure its gonna stand out. george ( greazygeo) as well.

Yeah--the "gain" knob should be called the "noise" knob, but if you keep the gain down and use the level to dial it in, is does some pretty bad-ass things. Put it in front of my TriAmp MK II on channel 2B and I get mega-crunch rhythms... in front of 3A or 3B, fluid metal leads with sustain for days--just gotta take the time and dial it in. In front of a clean channel you get some great compressor-like effect. One of the best "budget OD" pedals out there IMHO.

Thanks for bringing up this pedal, I hadn't used it in awhile and forgot how cool it is in front of my 1959RR. Doing some heavier stuff for my cd with the RR and this will be perfect for it. :)

I think it sounds pretty cool as is. Do you like the modded one that much more, or do you like the stock one to?

(note: I'm a little nervous talking directly to you, now that you are a universal celebrity) :D
