Why are these sold so cheaply in the used market place?

They're $2500 new and I'm seeing the as low as $1100.

What's the deal?

They are not a very popular amp. A lot of haters and a few fans. Many of the owners on the JVM Forum mod the heck of their amps. Many players find a lot not to like with the stock version. I prefer my DSL to my old JVM.

I recall really liking DSL's when I had a chance to play 'em, however, I don't recall them being head and shoulders above the JVM410H, as I've experienced it. I imagine there are plenty out there who attempt to crank the gain on the two OD channels, however, keeping them around 9:00 and turning the amp up is simply brutal. Mine sounds awesome. Just wish I had the opportunity to crank it more often.

The other way to look at it would be why would anyone want to spend more than $1100 on a used JVM410?

There are lots of options in the used market for $1100 or less. Also not many people need all the channels and modes on the JVM, they can usually find some amps that do the 1-2 things they need better than the JVM for the same price or less.

I had one for a few months but it couldn't hang with my 50watt 800 at practice or my 60watt vht. Woulda been a cool recording amp, and didn't need a boost. More gain than I could use. Didn't sound bad, just didn't have the punch and volume I was used to.

I've seen them cheaper than $1100. To pay $2500 for a JVM is fucking insane to me especially looking at it's guts. I remember when they first came out and I was in on the big SteveVHT group buy. Compared it to a Mesa Mark IV I had and boxed the JVM up and sold it. The JVM has a lot of gain but I never got along with it. As far as 4 channel amps give me a Roadster.

As someone said...nothing new. You see many amps go like that...SigX is another good example of a used amp selling for nearly half it's value and those are fantastic amps. In fact it's my favorite VHT/Fryette and one of my favorite all around amps period. I see them at $1100 or $1200 and those are steals IMO.

My JVM is my favorite amp I've every owned. Since purchased I've literally not gassed for another amp and I've owned one since they first came out. I can get anything I want out of the amp. All subjective...I personally do not like the DSL but many guys love those things and I've heard amazing tones out of them. I just can't dial them in though. Everyone always wanted Marshall to make a modded amp...well the JVM is it IMO, the Orange channel to me is pure modded Marshall. Hidden jewel of the amp is the Crunch channel with an OD in the front, I can nail my 800 tone easy. Cleans are fantastic as well. Just my mileage.

Can attest to that. I had the 210.? And the crunch orange got so close next to one of our 800's I could barely tell them apart. Just had to run the master super high to match volume. To be fair I have a 900 as a cheap backup in case we blow one at a show and I have to run it at 7+ on the master to match the 800's. It's a 100w as well.

Same here. I had the 2 channel 100 head, (210,) and the other guitarist had a 5150. His volume killed me every time. I always found it too compressed. Looking back, I would dial it in differently but still, the volume thing was very annoying. Maybe if I was the only guitarist, it would've been a better situation.

people sometimes prefer the 50watters in this case. I tried the 410H and did not like it at all. Then I tried the 205H and I am playing it for 2 years now. To me the 50w is a lot better amp.

I had the JVM210H. Bought it for $800 in new condition. Tons of gain and the loop was not great. I liked it but it didn't feel or sound like a Marshall should IMO. I have a DSL now that I prefer to the JVM.

Really enjoyed my JVM410 when I had one, OD1 Orange mode was perfect, BUT, the amp was very noisy and so compressed that it completely disappeared in a band context. Crunch channel just didn't crunch.

JVM410HJS i got after was defintely better but was still too compressed. A JCM800 2205 destroyed it in a practice.

When it comes to features vs tone, tone always wins.

Right now when I want a Marshall sound I have a DSL 50 which is not perfect but feels more alive than the JVM and I can play it at reasonable volume. (Which I can't with the 800)

Decent sounding head, but WAY too noisy. I borrowed one for a gig once and had to use a noise gate pretty clamped down. That kinda noise is unacceptable in a modern day amp. I think Satriani had it right when he switched out the reverb circuits for noise gates for each channel in his version of the amp.

Hey man don't complain. I want to buy one, so as long as the used market prices are low, good opportunities await.

Have you seen this video? The JVM sounds freaking amazing.

Happy to login this morning and see some positive feedback, along with some learned and positioned perspectives. In scouring the web, it seemed to me many opinions were from those with little to no actual JVM410 experience. Every time I plug into mine it simply makes me smile.

I've not been part of a band for quite some time, however, was recently asked to fill an opening. I used my V-Plex last couple gigs and it frickin' rocked, however, there was some versatility I (think) was missing. Got a gig Friday and think the JVM410H/1960A is joining me.

Some of those cleans like the Timmons tune he plays sounded horrible. And most of the distorted stuff like the Master Of Puppets and Megadeath riff pretty terrible, IMHO. The crunch tones he got were pretty good though like the Hells Bells riff.

And why do people with no serious right hand chops for chunk insist on playing Master Of Puppets?
