I use my trusty old Roland VS-2480 and still LOVE it...

-is this a stand alone unit?

-I'm thinking of taking my laptop, wiping out the entire thing, and installing XP-(I have a XP home O.S. install disc)-and just use that for recording only,

-or getting a stand alone digital recorder-(like the ZOOM H-2,...there are new unit's that will take external mic's-(xlr inputs)-guess I need to do more research..

It's a standalone with good pres and built in compression and FX....I really dig it and my recordings work out pretty well for my taste...

My stuff is out of date, but I use a focuserite saffire 6, because it was USB, and Ableton LIVE 8.2.1 for program. BUT since my computer decided I needed Windows 10 instead of 7 (somehow on it's own), it is ssssslllllloooooooooOOooowww. Now I need a new computer, Interface and program upgrade... so $$hit!

There are some good freebies to be had, but I'm not sure what all they are.... yet.

I had the same thing happen last Saturday night on a computer I make a living on, while I was working. Got up for a few minutes and came back to find it in the middle of the 'upgrade'. I was pissed. Earlier in the week I had cancelled the scheduled upgrade appointment and hid the update but it installed anyway. You have 30 days to go back to Windows 7 though, it only took me ten minutes to revert back.

Back on topic, I just finished a song this weekend using Ableton,a Focusrite 2i2 and Focusrite's plugins for the first time and was pretty happy with everything as a whole.

Thanks man, called Ableton and upgraded to 9 for 115 bucks, and all is well again.. I tried to go back to Windows 7, but it said I might have to reload programs and use a password.. I have NO idea what my password was 5 years ago.. .. sorry for the interruption..

Just recorded using Reaper, with an Apollo 18v interface and a few desktop Rupert N. Preamps. Everything else was custom built Mics, unidyne 57, and I think a SM7b. Guitar amps used are a Uberschall and a Heretic, leads on the Heretic with a maxon tb09.

I dig it. I think the vocal track is a little too dry... meaning it could use a little reverb or something. Just my ear.
