I'd have to say with just about every amp I have found that I really prefer the Tung Sol reissue 12ax7 in V 1 as it really works for just about everything from cleans to all out high gain !

What's yours ?

I've tried quite a few and my choice is Raytheon 12ax7 long blackplates nos. Great tube in the v1 slot! The Baldwin branded ones are just as good as the Raytheon branded.
You can pick these up for $15-$25 and well worth it.

Chinese 9th B. Lots of gain, a bit lower noise than the As.

Old Mullards for NOS and Chinese 9th gen for current production

I'm surprised at some of the responses also. RFt's are great tubes but much better in a gain stage. Mullards also great in gain stages but never found one I liked in v1. I would never use a chinese or Sovtek LPS in v1 also, but I guess different strokes.
Other than the Raytheon, Amperex is another I have liked in v1.

Hands down for me Tesla Rosnov 32 silver pin e83cc Can't find them anymore. Only gold pins.

In amps with Marshall type circuits, it's an NOS RFT for me. If it is a really high gain with tons of drive and needs to be tamed a bit, I like an LPS there.

Back @Dave....I agree about the TS's. I find them a little dull and lifeless in V1.

In my VHT UL I like a Tungsol reissue in V1 and in the Deliverance 60 i liked a JJ ECC 803S the most

Surprised to hear those who found the Tung Sol Reissue dull and lifeless .....

I guess we really do all have different ears :D because hands down my favorite with a Chinese 9th gen. a close second unless the amp is really on the bright side then I might go with a JJ or a Sovtek LPS , but overall the Tung Sol has really worked in just about everything except for some of the Cameron's I have owned ...

The Tungsols I had always burned out quickly in my Ubers. Same with the Sovtek LPS.

I like the TungSol Reissues in my 5150, and Blues Jr. The Bogner likes Chinese tubes...
