Who makes a true bypass chorus pedal that sounds good with clean and dirty tones? I'm not looking for some boutique pedal for $400.

I've had all kinds of fancy chorus pedals, I settled on simple. I went with the MXR Micro Chorus. One knob, no frills and I think it sounds pretty damn good.

I've got an old Boss CE-2 that I've had for years and years, but I don't use it much anymore.

If I were to get a new one with a true bypass, it would be an Analogman mini chorus with the external mix knob upgrade without a doubt. No other Chorus comes closer to what I want than that pedal.

try the old analog boss super chorus ch-1. It needs to be 1989 or older, should cost $75 to 90 on ebay.

The Neunaber chroma chorus is a truly outstanding pedal and sounds good with high gain in addition to cleans. It's the first chorus pedal I've been totally happy with.

that new Tech 21 boost chorus is great has a lot of features for $200 plus sounds good with drive
the Red witch chorus is nice too as is the Retrosonic

I've tried the Retrosonic and the TC Corona, sold them both and have an old MIJ CE. I don't care if it's not true bypass since I don't hear much tone loss or anything and it's such a great sounding pedal.

Why true bypass? I had Dave Friedman do my pedalboard a few years ago and I had an old Boss CE-2 and I asked him if he could mod it for true bypass. He said he could, but recommended against it - said it kills the mojo of that pedal.

I FRIGGEN LOVE CHORUS PEDALS.

my favorite analogue chorus is the maxon cs550 chorus

my favorite digital chorus is the strymon ola

try both. they are fantastic!

I really like the MXR Micro Chorus. Easy to use, easy to dial in, and sounds fabulous. The only drawback is that it boosts your signal somewhat.

Honestly I don't really know what to recommend, otherwise I'd stop my quest for chorus effects ages ago. I'm still trying to fine-tune a chorus sound to work with dirty tones, while still sounding warm & deep. I don't like that bright tinkly chorus sound.

The Visual Sound H2O Liquid Chorus & Echo (older version) sounds warm & lovely for clean tones, but can get a bit soupy and swashy with dirty tones. It has both a Width & Delay Time knob so you can make it sound as wide and warbly as you want. Personally I love the wide & really warbly sound for clean, but it doesn't work so well for dirt.
The H2O might be okay for some slight grit but for full on gain it can get a bit much if used too often. Might be okay for one song as a novelty. But it will pick up any noise and swish it like a stormy sea when turned on.

The Neunaber Chroma is a pretty cool mono output pedal, in fact it's a micro pitch-shifter (Eventide-in-a-box) rather than a chorus pedal. It actually works quite well for dirty tones as it doesn't muddy the bottom end as much, and does have a Mix control. It's a "static" chorus so won't get the swishyness like the H2O. It sounds a little cold for clean tones on its own, but can be used to create a really lush sound when used in conjunction (either series or parallel) with another chorus device. I have one and it is working well, but still need to fine-tune my settings a bit. I can get a bit fussy sometimes... :D
For a lot of others it'd probably work fine.
They have a Stereo version now but it won't be able to out out a 100% wet signal. To me that's crucial for a stereo sound, so I'm sticking to the Mono version and will just use it in a stereo setup on one side of the signal.

I really love the Deluxe Electric Mistress flanger by Electro Harmonix. It's my favourite "chorus" for clean tones and sounds great on lead passages. Can also get a bit swoopy & choke up your signal a bit for dirty rhythms if you're doing a lot of "chugga chugga", but great for some Pink Floyd-y sort of stuff, e.g. Young Lust.

True by-pass is sooooooooooooooo mis-read and mis-understood imo. The Eventide color is what makes it to this day one of the holy trinity of rack fx, same for the MXR 90.

FLESH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I like the TC Corona. I like how it gets inside the tone instead of sitting on top of it. Dont know how else to explain it.
Also, The TC is subtle. It adds a nice three dimensional character without getting all swirly. Another thing I like is I havent had any phasing issues with it.

The Boss DC-2 is definitely a great chorus pedal. Get an old one if you can. It's the little brother of the Roland SDD-320 Dimension D rack unit that Steve Stevens famously used with a Rockman headphone amp for.......

There's also a great boutique version by John Fromel called the Seraph, but I don't know if it eclipses the $400 price.

DOD mini chorus is my favorite all time. I use the Micro Chorus too. Both are old... But sound so good. I'm over the true bypass thing.

I'm looking for a new one too. Have a Meistersinger which sounds good....but not great. It's not pretty enough for me. I'll be watching this thread. I'm drawn to the Corona for whatever reason.
