What's Your Favorite Friedman

JJ... best of both worlds with the modded plexi BE tone and the over the top angry JBE tone. It inspires me to play every day and it's the sound in my head that I've been looking for since 1989.

I'd still love to try a Buxom Betty though.

SS!! since it's the Friedman I own!! but it does everything I'm into better than I even expected! Dirty channel cuts and sounds amazing and the clean channel is fantastic! Not that I will but I could roll with this one amp for the rest of my days! It's an inspiring tone for me.

BE. The flagship. Probably the best clean channel I've ever heard in a channel switcher as well.

I have to go with the JJ also. Really gives you a great range of tones.

JJ, BE and the SS seem to be showing well.

how many guys have played 2 or 3 of the above? I'm always curious if favorites are favorites because owners may not have played others and just leave well enough alone...or how many try multiple models and then pick.

^^ That's what I'm sayin... For the dudes with one Friedman it'll be THAT amp. I tried all the Friedmans thoroughly for weeks when I went down to Nashville. The BE100 had the bit and tones I was looking for. Not much on the HBE mode EXCEPT in a band mix. Playing with my band the HBE mode really does cut through for solos. Don't like the heavier bass of the JJ and can't ever see needing more gain than the BE100 and I play metal sometimes. Just a game-changer for me.

Second favorite is the Dirty Shirley... I just LOVE that classic rock richness from that amp.

Only the JJ and BE for me, but I obsessively listened to every single YouTube demo I could find of all the models and without a doubt the JJ was THE tone that has been in my head of what I wanted my amp to sound like since sometime in the '90's. That extra bass that Adambomb mentioned was part of what sold me. I found the JJ to be deeper, darker, and thicker than the BE and have better note definition/separation at darker settings and JBE mode is just over the top awesomeness for high gain. I can totally see how the BE would be the one for most people especially since it sticks closer to the popular modded plexi tone. For my personal taste the JJ was the one. My biggest decision was whether to get the JJ modded to be foot-switchable between BE and JBE mode.

The latest BE100. Beautiful clean, takes pedals well, and the BE and HBE cover all the gain I need and want.

But I love all of them.

Not sure if modded amps count, but I had an APC mod done on a '78 JMP 100 and that amp was awesome! I like the Naked/APC because it doesn't really sound like a Marshall to me, it's just different!

I definitely wish I would have kept that one!

I've got the JJ, the BE100, the PhilX and the SS.

The SS just steal it for me - but that's the tones I have in my head as I'm a big SS fan........there isn't really a bad one is there!

Jesus dealmaker!! You could buy a house with that arsenal of amps!! I agree the SS stands above the others slightly in tone.

you've got the same 4 i do! Help me pick just two to keep! :)

some of the amps are a little closer to another vs the rest but they are all just a little different enough.

i actually think all the time about which ONE would i keep....its tough because the head says obviously the BE (with its versatility and the range of tones is what i generally play) but i think my heart lies with the SS...it can be a little bit dark and low end than i sometimes ideally like (especially when switching directly between amps) but, overall, everything else about the feel and tone is just at home for me...I come from a more vintage place, so its probably not surprising i feel most comfortable out of the four with the SS.

Ok... dude would you or the other poster with all these Friedmans do a youtube or soundcloud clip comparison of the best dialed in overdrive tones of all these amps?? I'm talking about 10 second fast clip swaps. Also you said so amps are much closer or similar in tones... In your opinion, which amps are closer in tone?

One of you Friedman amp vault guys sound do a caparison of these amps, if you havent already. That would help out so many people in their amp buying decisions of a Friedman!

Good sound and video clips on the Sweetwater web page i think everything but the Dirty Shirely is available to watch... Good stuff Dave talking and Doug Rapaport playing!
