What pickups have you found to work well in a Peavey Wolfgang, besides the stock pickups?

The stock one's a pretty awesome in that guitar as is. I don't know too many people who switched them, at least not permanently.

Yeah, hate not to have input beyond the obvious - but as soon as I heard my Wolfgang through my rig I didn't bother experimenting with pup swaps, stock pretty much had me satisfied from the get go. It couldn't hurt to try I'm sure, just never got around to it...

I agree as well, the stocks pickups on my Wolfie are great, never had any desire to swap em out. Sorry, I'm not much help.

Ive had my Wolfgang for 10 years. I wont change the pickups. Dont do it, they sound great.

That's the problem, I did change them about a year ago. Now, I think I'm starting to regret it.

Wide range of output values in stock pups. Very muddy mids.
Best cheap alternative is Tone Zone bridge, Air Zone neck.
Best pricey alternative, Nailbomb bridge, Cold Sweat neck.

I don't know that I'm necessarily looking for an exact replica of the stock pickups. Although, I have read the the stock bridge pickup is somewhere in between the Air Zone and the Tone Zone.

I was just curious what other pickups people have tried and liked.

the stock pickups are awesome ... the only other combination i have found to really work well/decent in them are the seymour duncan jb/59 combo ... if i were to ever switch out the pups in mine it would be for that combination only .

Really? I was thinking about this combo. But, a lot of people said the JB would be too much for the Wolfgang. They kept talking about the high mid spike in that pickup.

Thanks, I've been reading a lot of stuff about the JB. I don't want to get a pickup if I have to end up changing it's magnets or changing the values of my port or adding resistors. I want it to sound good right out of the box.

Stock pickups are OK until you get an amp that is clear enough to hear the difference. Then they're not so great.

It might be easier for people to recommend something if you give more details like what kind of music you play, how you want your guitar to sound, what you're looking to avoid etc.

Well, I mostly play classic rock to modern rock cover tunes. I do love the earlier VH sound. That seems to be about the tone I usually go for. I need decent cleans at times. The heaviest I would ever really need to get is early Tool. The Air Zone just seems a bit tame to me.
