How close to the speaker do you guys get the mike? Do you usually have to do much eq'ing? I usually record a single 12 cab, which is pretty easy and I usually didn't have to eq anything. With my 4 x 12's, I'm having a bit harder time, particularly with the low end. I can eq it and make is sound good, but I'd rather not eq it. Any tips? TIA

I usually have the mic an inch or two away from the grill cloth, and I never use any post EQ. Too complicated and time consuming for me.

It's funny, I find it a lot easier to mic a 4x12 & sounds far superior to 1x12s IMO. In reality it's all about the tone you dial with your rig, if you get it sound right it will get miked right too. I like my 57s right against the grill cloth.

I like my 57 right at the cloth as well. I usually have it off center, too. Sometimes I'll angle it, but rarely.

Noramally I record with my 57 pointed straight at the middle of the cone.

My tone is normally very mid heavy with very little bass and no treble so it evens out.

I don't get boomy, my palm mutes just get crushing.

Depends on where you're putting it, the speakers, amp, yadda yadda yadda...
