Yeah, I noticed the Panzers but the reviews for support were terrible. Looked at the JM Pro’s but I didn’t see one with a barrel shorter than 24”. It would be for home defense. Is JM Pro an upgraded version?
They're basically a 940 with a couple mods.
Dude, I'm kind of a hard core shotgun junkie and sometimes I tend to ramble on, so please stop me if I'm just repeating a bunch of shit you already know. I'm partial to semi autos, but the thing with them is you most definitely want to avoid anything with an external box magazine ( AR style) with the exception of the Saiga or the unobtanium AA12, which are Russian. There isn't a Turkish made shotgun you could give me for free. So with regards to semi autos, if you want them to be utterly reliable, like for SD/HD, you should definitely not be looking at any budget models. Beretta, Benelli, IWI or the new Mossberg JM/940 are about the only semi autos I would use in a critical role. Also, unless you already have or plan to train A LOT with a semi auto, I generally avoid recommending it to less experienced people for home defense. The manual of arms is completely different than pump or break action guns and the manual of arms for each one is different than another one. Benelli M4 and Beretta 1301T for instance have slightly different carrier stop locations. It may not seem like a big difference on paper but when you have to clear a malfunction or something it's gonna be very problematic if you aren't fully immersed in muscle memory training with that specific gun. All that to say if you are going to go with a semi auto, get a good one and train relentlessly with it.
For pump guns it's hard to go wrong with a Mossberg 500 or 590 variant. Or a Remington 870 variant. The manual of arms is much simpler than SA and if you train with them they are nearly as fast on follow up shots. Certainly fast enough for home defense. Way less to go wrong at the wrong time too.
A lot of misconceptions about shotguns. (This is one of those parts I was talking about where you should stop me if I am being redundant) The biggest two being that you don't need to aim them and that racking a shotgun will scare someone away. At inside distances the spread with buckshot is going to be a few inches, so you definitely need to aim. And it isn't just going to blow someone back through the door like in the movies. And keeping a pump gun staged with the chamber empty is not something I do. I know "Cruiser ready" is popular with cops and on the internet, but it essentially means you have an unloaded shotgun which when you load it you have just given away valuable seconds as well as your current position. A lot of people tend to buy a shotgun, load it, then stick it behind the door and pretend like they are prepared. The fact is if you are going to use a shotgun as your HD gun you need to train with it a lot to be effective. Handguns and suppressed ARs are much more forgiving for people who don't or can't train regularly. Over penetration can be a concern depending on where you live, how close your neighbors are and how many people are living in other rooms of your house. All this needs to be taken into account when deciding what to use for your particular situation.
Anyway, I have and use both semi autos and pumps as part of my HD plan, but the one closest to my bed is a 500A1.
Assuming I haven't been just telling you a bunch of shit you already know, if you want/need advice, photos , experience with using or setting up and modifying shotguns for specific uses or situations, feel free to PM me. Most of that shit isn't something I will be comfortable doing out on the open forum.
