Looking at a new pickup for my R9 bridge position.

I play hard rock/punk etc. I still want the guitar to retain some classic tone vibe, so I don't any too full blown.

Looking at the

afwayu
Aldrich
BareKnuckle Rebel Yell

Anyone have any experience with these in a les paul and any other suggestions?

I have an Aldrich in the Bridge of my R8, and I love it. I've tried a lot of pickups on that guitar, and always went back to PAF Clones of some kind or another, but the Aldrich has stayed and is going to for quite a while. I'm not going to say it's a hot rodded PAF, but it's not too far from that.

Motor City Second Degree Blackbelt is a great choice for a Les Paul.

Aldrich and MCP 2nd Degree Black Belts would be my recommendations as well.

For me, personally, Les Paul's have so much inherent sonic "beef" that you don't need a super hot bridge pickup to get a big tone. I think the Afwayu works great in superstrats (i.e. that's why Cantrell uses one in his G&L) but not in a LP. (Again, that's why Cantrell uses the 2DBB in his LP).

Something like a hot overwound PAF like the 2DBB, WCR Godwood, etc, work GREAT in a Les Paul.

I have a set of Lollar Imperial Highwinds in my LP. They're basically an overwound PAF. I like them a lot and use them for everything from blues to heavy metal.

I like the Godwood, very fat sounding

I'm a BKP fanboi... The Rebel Yell is a potent pup, man... Super potent.

Depends a lot on the amp and so forth, but some of their high output vintage pups would kick ass in what your asking for. If in doubt, email Tim Mills, and he'll give you the straight up goods and advice. He's never done me wrong with his recommendations and I own several Lesters loaded with BKP's.

2 cents,
V.

Another BKP fanboi here

Personally love the Warpig, or PainKiller, can't go wrong with either

Another vote for BKP. I think the riff raff in my LP's bridge is amazing for hard rock.
Just email Tim and ask what he recommends.

Why spend all that when you can drop in a Duncan Custom 5 and be done.

Because there's this British company called Bare Knuckle Pickups...

I have a MCP Detroiter in my Esp Eclipse. Sounds awesome!

The Aldrich to me sounds like a JB on roids. If you like the JB, youll love the Aldrich
