Which Diezel for me?

Hey Guys,

So I am madly in love with my Friedman modded amp and every time I plug in I'm getting new tones all the while having a grin on my face as I play. I've been curious for a while about Diezel amps and although I've never had a chance to play one; I want one badly.

They sound so good (VH4/Herbert/Hagen) that I would buy one without even plugging in but instead of jumping the gun down the line, I'm hoping you guys can help me out. I don't want to drop some serious coin on something without gelling with it (or getting remotely close).

So I'd like to know if any of you have compared a KS modded amp or BE100 next to a Diezel.

I'm looking for the following:

Smooth Cleans
High Gain
Tight Lows
Low Noise Floor
Something that I can run opposite of my Friedman or together if I wish.

VH4 hands down.

Smooth cleans is what you'll get, period. The Herbert and the Hagen have more bright, chimey cleans. The VH4 is smooth and rich cleans.

Low noise floor? Check.
High Gain? Beyond check.
Tight lows? Unbelievably.
Beside the Friedman? Probably ontop of it, sorry.

I don't have a VH4, yet I do have Herbert and Hagen and both have the bright, chimey cleans I love.

So, if you are looking for smoother cleans, then VH4 is probably your amp.

Herbert will do the high gain, tight low end, low noise..might even be a good match to the BE100, not sure about that.

I love the Herbert's versatility with mid-cut options and +/- switch on channel 2. Really has some amazing tones in it.

The Hagen is a bit looser feeling, correct me if I'm wrong guys but that's my opinion, which is also really nice.
After Mo schooled me on the set-up of the Hagen (higher MV), I have really been enjoying it more.

VH4 will not disappoint, neither will Herbert IMO. YMMV of course, but best to play one if you can.

Where are you located??

NC for college but home is MA. I know both Matt's Music and the Axe Palace are Diezel dealers as is Brad's shop in RI.

Closest to me right now is a shop is MD.

I like smooth cleans for more jazz and funk based things (when the gain is down) but I also love versatility in my amps.

Not a Mesa guy, but having some mini switches for different sounds (i.e scooped mids etc.) is a huge plus in my department.

To add to my list, I love super percussive open sounding amps. Tight is cool but I like huge sounds.

Well. this is a weird one because I have both kinds of amps. The Dirty Shirley sitting next to Hagen and VH4.
I have also Played the BE-100 briefly (multiple times) at tone merchants.

I think the low noise floor is the great distinction. No amp I have ever used sounds as quiet as the VH4 I own.
I have been playing live with it for over 4 years.
It never hisses really loud or has those kind of sound issues. In fact I never have used a noise gate either.

I feel like the Friedman BE-100 is just as tight(ish) ,has the Gain (albeit a different flavor for sure) AND has the tight lows.
but might have a significantly higher noise floor (will test this when I buy a BE-100

Your post mentions some of the best designed and pleasing sounding amps around. I really dont think you can go wrong with a Diezel OR a Friedman. I have both brands and they have never let me down.

Shit yes yours is quiet! I've been following your clips on YT for a while now.

Surprisingly, my Friedman KS Modded Plexi is super quiet even on HBE with the gain maxed and the volume at 4.

What I love about my amp is that it still behaves and sounds like a Plexi but with Dave's unique twist.

Something that would either crush my amp or gel nicely is very welcome in my book.

Dont rule out the D-Moll.

The Herbert is killer but to me just a little to hard edged.
Only owned the Herbert and the VH4. Never heard the Hagen or the D Moll.
The VH4 is sooooooooooo damn good though.

I've owned a few different VH4 amps and played a KS modded Plexi. Both are awesome and I think would run well together. The VH4 sounds just massive and is dead quiet. Not that the Friedman seemed noisy. More recent VH4 amps are smoother than the earlier ones IMHO. The cleans can be very smooth. Very percussive. But I couldn't describe the amp as "open" sounding, particularly the more recent ones, though I found the Friedman to be on the compressed side, too. So if the Friedman is your thing, I don't see how the Diezel could bother you in that respect.

Never played the other Diezels so can't help there. The VH4 is an incredible amp.

I guess I need to recant my original statement as I know my Friedman has some compressed characteristics.

I like open sounding amps for a solo tone; but that can be sculpted. Overall, I like tight amps that function well with a plug and play approach and sound equally great for rhythm and lead.

The versatility of the Diezel line is the biggest draw for me.

From the sound of it, looks like the VH4 is taking the gold is this instance.
