Ok, I need a little help deciding, since either is a fairly large purchase. Should I get a Ceriatone Son of Yeti for $775 or a Marshall 2525 head for $875?

HELP!!! Haha

Yeti is too dark and smooth for my tastes. I voted for the Marshall. But you could also easily mod the Son of Yeti too, so that would actually be my preference over either. But that's for my own tonal likes. No idea what sound you're going for.

Is the SOY pretty similar to the Chupacabra? I know there is some difference obviously.

No it's closer to the Yeti lol. But there are a few differences if the layouts on Ceriatone's website are correct.

Thanks! I just pulled the trigger on the Jubilee.

Nice. Yeah I see you have a Chupa already? Didn't see that before. SoY would be a bit redundant so the Marshall is a good choice.

Congrats! Make sure you boost it with a decent OD pedal, that's how you get the goods IMO.

Yep. I have a few different pedals that I'll try. SD1, TS9, Bad Monkey.

DEF not the case. I have a Chupacabra 100 and received a new SOY this week and the Soy is Def much brighter.
They Def do not sound similar or redundant.

Decided I like the Chupa way better for what I play so the SOY is on the chopping block.

Congrats on the mini jubilee. The boost pedals you have will work well. Also try to run the output master at 6 or higher.

$10? I'll buy it

Sure send me your address. I'll send it out tomorrow.

The NFB resistor on the Yeti is too low to run in conjunction with that depth control increasing it by 50-100% will open it right up.

I'd love to play around with different component values on my Chupa, but I'm just not versed enough to be comfortable doing so. Man, if I could get it to even sound close to Scottosan's amp in the previous post!

Gotta start somewhere!

I noticed some of the values in the SoY are different. Have a look. NFB is 47K instead of 39K.

I actually boosted mine with an Xotic EP, (just barely cracked open), into an MXR GT-OD. I DID NOT engage the rhythm clip, (I thought it was a hot mess).

Run the gains a bit lower, hit it with a boost, and it's fat and glorious. The rhythm clip sounded like absolute garbage, IMO, even unboosted. The key to getting great Marshall roar, is to stay away from that stupid feature. Instant fizz, mud, and very unpleasant.

I ran my Output Master at about 2 o'clock, Lead Master for overall volume. The louder, the better! I ran the gain at about 2 o'clock as well, then hit it with a boost, (or two, in my case). It's a killer amp, if you follow that recipe, (and don't care about cleans, which I didn't). Your greatest tone will be approaching it like a single channel amp, and with a "set and forget" mindset. Sure, it becomes a one-trick pony, but, damn does it sound GOOD! Beefy JCM800, but a tad darker, warmer, and muscular for a little amp!
