Which, if any, delay works out front?

I'd like to add some delay/reverb to my SD30 without using the crappy loop. For louder gigs I usually run wet/dry with a g-major...

Is there a pedal that will give me a lttle reverb effect for clean tones and some delay for leads?

I'm selling a mint Didgitech Digidelay for $40 if interested. Never tried it out front, but it is a killer and versatile pedal

BTW, are you talking about the Budda SD ? I just ordered the SD18 head and your comment worries me  I have to have a good loop

They work fine... maybe it's the g-major, but I seem to lose tone with it in the loop. You never noticed that?

Then again, I don't care for series loops.

I think it might come down to the fx unit yeah, and maybe how it's set up. I used to use an echoplex in the loop (don't have the amp anymore). No problems, maybe .01% tone loss. Definitely not objectionable.

I find the Ibanez/Maxon Analog delays work pretty good out front. I use my maxon AD-80 out front.

I like series loops and hate parrallel loops, but I am a pedal guy, not an effects processor guy. I think for processors, probably a parallel loop would be better.

My Boss DD-20 works very well upfront. Very happy with that pedal.

I was just going to mention you, V!

Same delay works very well for me with my 2203 and trem-o.

If you plan on using anything higher than SRV levels of distortion, no delay pedal will sound good in front of the amp. Also, I thought the loop in my old SD45 was pretty good? And I never had tone sucking problems with a GMajor (although I never used the GMajor with the Budda.) Maybe I just didn't pick up on the tone loss?

Chris

Maybe it's not worse, just different. I like the tone of the amp better with just the guitar straight in. Everything you add changes the tone at least a little. Actually, I was using the g-major last night and think it will work fine.... I'll just have to edit my patches.

I wish it was totally transparent like in a wet/dry setup -or- maybe I just wish I wasn't too lazy to haul the extra gear to hook it up the way I like it best.

Either way my amp search is over; I already have the tone that works for me.

I was thinking of you and wondered if you still liked the boss. I went to GC today, but didn't buy anything... I hate the display/demonstration setup thdey have. I'm going to stick with the g-major for now, I guess.

You could get something like a suhr minimix to make the serial loop into a parallel loop. That might help your tone issues a bit.

Tray an old blackfaced Rocktron Intellifex. Very transparent.

Delay in front of an amp with gain has never worked for me (and I've tried lots of different pedals)...in da loop it goes.

Same here, I can get away with a bit of dirt with delay in fron when I run it with the Triad, but other than that no go...always gets that horrid folding over of the note.

Agreed, It's not that delay out front won't work for some...I just use too much gain for it.

The Lines 6 Echo Park is the best delay that I've ever heard out front. It has the ducking feature which doesn't muddy up your tone. I hated the DL4, but I'm digging the Echo Park for sure. The analog and tape delays sound damn good as well. It sounds great in front of my Cameron's.....

Hey John, if you don't use alot of gain up front you might be able to use any type of decent delay in front of the chain just fine. It's the amp gain that screws things up normally

It's just a very versatile pedal that sounds terrific.

This is all just pissing into the wind though when the amp in question has a very useable loop...

You have a dung beatle for an avatar.... pissing into the wind should NOT be a problem.

Seriously, I'm just not thrilled with the way the g-major alters the tone of the amp. I don't have anything else to try in the loop.... maybe it's the g-major that's the problem.

Quit being such a defensive fanboy, LOL, I love my Budda.... I just wish it had a buffered parallel loop. :D

BTW... The Suhr Minimix looks perfect. I was going to try to build something like that -- I'm going to try to find one and order it. Thanks for the tip!
