Looking at some R8s. Can't decide which one to go for. I've narrowed it down to these. I wish they were VOS, though. But they're super glossy. Brand new.

9.2 pounds. Dirty Lemon Burst.

And here's a beat-up 2007 VOS R9. 9.2 pounds. Dirty Lemon Burst.

I like bigger necks, and heavier LPs....I'd go for the heavy R8.

R9s seem to hold their value better though, at least from what I've seen. If you can score that one for a decent price and you don't like it, then it's no problem to make your money back.

Yep, same here. I like heavier LPs with bigger necks. R8 has a larger neck than R9. But not by much. The beat up R9 would be about $400 cheaper. But the R8s are new. So if I tried to resell them, they'd instantly drop in value to below the price of the used R9. So, something to think about. But I don't plan on reselling. And then again... these R8s are "limited" Dave's Guitar Shop 30th Anniversary models. And the wood was apparently "personally selected" for each guitar by the shop. So not sure how much that would stave off depreciation...

But in any event, all the guitars I posted are about 9 pounds, some a little heavier. But not by much. I wish I could play them all and find the one that feels the best. But I'm in Michigan and the store is in Wisconsin. :(

I really hate that....I haven't been back to MI in almost 20 years....do you not have a decent shop that you could try some out in?

Nope, no shops in the area with any decent Gibsons. I played an R8 and an R7 at my local Guitar Center. But they were set up really badly and didn't seem like anything worth buying. Dave's Guitars, for example, has like 100 different Historics and such.

I saw that R9 for sale somewhere last night on my cruising... beautiful ax. The R8s are nice too, but yeah, factor in depreciation if you get one of the new ones!

Kinda personal preference, but that R9 is the choice out of that group, for me anyway.

This one is sweet. But it's probably out of my price range. R9:
