This is an open question for discussion and advice. I will REALLY appreciate your comments and feedback (no pun intended!).

I'm a proud owner of a just-modded-by-Dave-Friedman '77 Marshall 100 watt JMP head with the Kitchen Sink mod and I have two speaker cab options I want some feedback on. Which cab do you think would work better with this amp head? EL34 power tubes.

Just a note: I have a quad of Scumback M75-65W-16 ohm speakers on the way to load in one or the other.

1) '73 Marshall 4x12 slant cab
2) '73 Marshall 4x12 straight cab

I really dig these speakers - I have 1 in a 1x12 Mojo Tone cab and it kills my old Greenbacks in the straight cabinet! No shit... More bass, more "nice" overdrive and grit, etc. My Mark C. (shhhhh) modded Low Gain Jose also sounds better with this speaker.....

I'm just not sure if the M75 spkrs, which have a lotta low end response, will sound too woofy in the straight cab.

I also ordered a pair to replace the raspy sounding G12H-30s in my Avatar-built 2x12 cab.... those speakers sound like shit, I'm sorry and don't mean to diss anybody that likes 'em. I gigged with that cab Saturday night and had a lot of trouble getting a good chunky, but not-too-bright tone.... They are a bit PRESENT as well, I had to back off the treble and presence a bunch!

Straight cab. Thats what I use its not to much bass.

Have you tried those speakers in a different cabinet?

Just sayin'

I'd go with a straight cab, personally, Brian. They sound deeper/better, IMO. I do have a few slants I've tried as well, and I've made a few. If they're built right, they can have a great sound as well, but in general straight cabs have more low end and are deeper/thicker sounding.

I play only straight cabinets and swear by them. What are you gonna do with the H30's? 8 or 16ohm?

Yes, I did try them in another cab; my Marshall slant with two V-30s and it didn't sound good to me at all. I had trouble liking the forwardness of the H30s and the mid-range drone of the V-30s.... It was fatiguing on me ears!

Thanks for chiming in Jim! I will try yours and Dave's suggestion!

Thanks for chiming in, too Lp Freak! The speaks are 16 ohm and barely used, just gigged with two or three times at not too loud a volume. I wish to sell them, not interested in trades. Iz you interested? Brian
