Bogner Red or Xotic SL Drive?

Either one will replace my Wampler Pinnacle Deluxe. It's a good pedal but a little too smooth for my tastes now.

Wampler Triple Wreck! FTW.

Beast in a box....

I have a Red. Pretty good pedal. Does not get close to the Wreck.

If you are dead set on getting a Red, shoot me a PM. BUT.... For a stand alone pedal to get you to evil grind, that ain't it.

Suhr Riot.

Sounds kinda like the SE+. Pretty killer pedal.

Yeah I'm not looking for any kind of evil grind

I am, however, looking for something within the Marshall-y realm. I want that sizzle and chunk on the low notes when palm muting. Something which, IME, the Pinnacle lacks.

I also want something that has enough gain on tap for 80's cock rock without having to boost. But the note separation has to be there. This is one concern I have with the SL Drive.

Sorry but I never liked the Riot pedal.

The red does what you mentioned above.
Great pedal.
What amp are you using?

I'm at the mercy of rented backlines almost 95% of the time.

Before I became a stay-at-home dad, I was supplied with a DSL100 head at my nightly gig spot but now that I only have time for one-off gigs, most of the time, I get a JC120.

So the pedal needs to play very well with super clean, s/s amps.

Not sure about SS amps, but the main reason I have great stand alone gain pedals is for back line gigs and fly gigs. I never know what amp will be at gigs when I show up so I need to be ready. The Red is great. I usually have a Fulldrive 2 and Keeley TS-9 with me as well. Flavors.
But the Red certainly needs no boost. It screams. Has it's own boost that works great.

I get what you mean. I need a pedal that I know will sound good if and when I get a s/s amp in the back line. The Pinnacle plays very well with clean, s/s amps but I'm just not diggin' the smooth tone now.

I have an SL Drive. It's great for the older Marshall-y tones like 60s-70s. Not enough gain for 80s-90s stuff. Works well as a boost too.

Thanks for the heads up

Garland bi metal black. Tweaked bogner xtc. HV tube preamp. LOVE MINE.

I have the Red and its on my board because of its versatility. But, I'll throw another into the mix for you. The single channel Plexitone. KILLER marshall in a box!!! If it had a built in boost it would replace the Red.
I have no experience with the SL Drive.

I'm picking up the old Plexitone today. The boost is supposed to be great. Like the Red.

From videos I've seen, yeah I know videos =/, but I like the love pedal purple plexiglass.

Ok guys, help a brutha out here please.

I have a few more choices to throw into the mix.

JHS Angry Charlie
Wampler Plextortion
Weehbo JVM Drive
Weehbo Mastiff

Please chime in with your thoughts on these pedals. Thanks!

can anyone tell me (that has played both the red and blue bogner pedals...)

does the red cover more ground of the blue

or does the blue cover more ground of the red (or maybe with a boost).

im interested in picking up one of the two....not sure which one to get though....

looking for all around versatility.

I think the Red does. Waaay more gain. The Blue needs to be wound up quite a bit to approach a strong level of gain. It have very little gain.

I haven't tried some of these pedals mentioned, but I've owned two Carl Martin Plexitones (older version), a Bogner Red, and a few other pedals and for plexi crunch it's hard to beat the Plexitone. I just got done A/B'ing the PT and a Keeley Red Dirt last weekend. I dug the Red Dirt... but much like the Bogner Red it didn't end-up measuring up to the PT for my tastes.
