Who got Logic Pro X yet?

On one hand I'm a bit disappointed that there is no upgrade scheme, I paid so much for my old logic versions (starting from 4). On the other hand, this full version is far cheaper than I used to pay for version upgrades in the past, so OK, I'm fine I guess

I'm surprised this version is only $199! Wasn't Logic 9 $499?

Dude, I remember having paid for Logic 1400,- Deutschmarks in the mid 90s. Basically you can translate that 1:1 into Euros today.

Logic 9 was $199.at least thats what i paid.

Logic wasnt owned by Apple in the 90s.
I believe Apple made it more user-friendly and affordable.

I pd $499 for Logic 8.bought an Apogee Duet.
Have an Ipad 2.i think im set.

It's true, Emagic built an amazing and totally freely configurable sequencer, but usability wasn't so good compared to Cubase at the time. When Apple took it, they totally improved the interface. And even now, things like the iPad remote app for Logic X are amazing inventions. I am surprised they kept the environment as complex as it was, that is cool. The midi modifiers they released now - friend and I built these things already back then in the Logic environment. It's very powerful.

I'm trying it out today. The virtual drummer sounds interesting and the aliasing means I can play through my superior drummer sound.

Yeah I had to update my OS as well, a few quibbles and needed to download Logic twice, but it's running fine on my 4 Year old MacBook now. There are so many plugins in there at such a good quality, I don't mind losing the old stuff.

Which proc do you have? I'm a bit concerned it won't run right on mine.

I have a 4 year old I-Mac and Im still running OSX operating system and Logic Pro 8 .... Im afraid to upgrade anything since it all works just fine the way it is lol... Any guys have trouble with Snow Leapord\Snow Lion and Logic 8 or 9?

I'm holding off for the time being. Gotta upgrade all my plugins to 64 bit since they dropped support for 32 bit completely with this release. That or quit using my 32 bit plugins all together. It looks nice, but it doesn't have many features that are making me rush out to get it at the moment.

It's awesome. Fortunately all my plugins are 64bit.
The new pitch editor is so cool I immediately sold my Melodyne license.

I want it for the drum enhancements because I think it's time to start writing again, but can't bring myself to spend the money. It's an odd model Apple has with no upgrade pricing, but I guess that's how all apps are via the app store.

You're exactly right. Apple doesn't really have an upgrade mechanism as part of the Mac App Store, so they've done the next best thing: they've made the regular price the amount hat used to be the upgrade price. So in the day of $499 Logic Studio, it was a $199 upgrade. When it went to the Mac App Store, it became $199 for everyone. As you said ridiculously reasonable.

All true, just wanted to note that all these years later, it's still the same "Emagicians" working for Apple writing Logic. Of course there is the normal ebb and flow of retirees and new hires, but its still the same basically the same folks designing and coding as it was in those days.

And even now, things like the iPad remote app for Logic X are amazing inventions.

I really hope everyone with an iPad gives Logic Remote a try with LPX. It really sets the paradigm for what a remote app can do. And this is just version 1.0! I look forward to more enhancements as time progresses.

Logic in some ways has a nearly impossible tightrope to walk: so many users got into its tweaky-geeky complexity from back in the day, and they don't want to see that vanish. And not just techno guys, but soundtrack composers who built their own crazy realistic articulation switches using the Environment. OTOH, they wanted to make an app for the rest of us, the musicians that want to just make music and not become programmers. I think that LPX walks that line very well, and it will only get better from here. And fast: LPX 10.0.1 was released less than two weeks after launch! I predict pretty rapid updates.

Got it. Doesn't work with my old version of Steven Slate Drums I was using with Logic 9.1.8 that uses Kontakt 3 for the plugin. Doesn't even show up. Oh well... can't use it for the stuff I'm working on now until I figure that out because I like the Steven Slate Drum sounds... gotta upgrade SSD I guess... Ugh...

Interface looks beautiful though...

That bites. Glad I got to hop on the $99 upgrade to Platinum 4 when it happened. They have a lot of sales on the SSD stuff so I am sure it'll come around again.
