I'm really GASing for one of these at the moment. Ben said he could build a 100 watt version.

Who has played one? How is it similar and different from a JCM 800??

thanks

I want one sooooo bad all of a sudden.

Looking to use it for stoner/doom. I bet it would work well for those sounds.

I have one. It sounds better than any 2204 I've ever played. It has more of the warmer JMP kind of tone happening. There seems to be just a touch more preamp gain. It's very responsive and isn't harsh at any volume. It's a great amp!

Hahaha cool man.

That's pretty much what I want. I'll probably use a nice boost as well.

I hit mine with a Roccaforte Bastard and it sounds badass. The Bastard is more of a midrange and highs booster, but I like it. If you're going to play Stoner/Doom stuff, look at a thick fuzz pedal. Hell, the amp itself may have enough gain for that.

Mine has all of the Mercury trannies and the Sozo caps. It's loaded up with =C= EL34s in the power section and RFT Ecc83 preamp tubes. It sounded every bit as good as my '79 JMP 2203 that I sent to Dave Friedman for the Naked mod.

I've got one and would pretty much agree with Dale's assessment. I'd also add that it's an extremely versatile amp and can do way more than just JCM 800 tones. This is due to the decade switch which really makes it seem like 3 amps in one.

Mine is a 20 watter that Ben tweaked for me. I wanted "that tone" but without peeling the paint off the walls! It's still plenty loud, it just gives up the goods a little earlier. Killer amp and Ben is a Top Notch guy to deal with!

Here's a pic of mine with the matching 2x12.

Wow! That's BADASS! It looks like yours is a blend of the Mini Plex and the Olde 800. That's awesome! Does the power section have EL34's?

Thanks Man! It does have 2 EL34's. I guess Ben just adjusted the plate voltage to run the EL 34's at 20 watts. I'm no techie, but I'm pretty sure that's all he did. I'm running the stock tubes in it and see no reason to change them. A pair of Mullard RI's and a trio of Tung Sol RI's and this thing rocks! I had the option of Power Scaling, but I knew the MV worked so well I chose not to go with it.

Basically Ben built me a custom amp, just not a custom prices. He's got magical ears and true talent!

Hey.... like.... how d'ya turn it on?

Steve

Steve, don't let him tell you fibs. You turn it on via telepathy. ;)

Thanks for the replies dudes! It seems like the perfect amp for me. I'm going to get a loop too. I plan on getting some nice pedals for her too.

Now I just need to save some money!
