Mercury Magnetics offers an Output Transformer, Power Transformer and a mod to replace a resister with a Choke for the Marshall DSL. Has anyone replaced the stock parts on their amps with MM parts? Was it worth it?

I never heard of that. Where do you go to see that stuff? Interesting.

I havent any experience with it personally.. but i have heard many guys praising the tone of the DSL after adding the choke!

Good. Thing is you have to mount the choke to the chassis. I say this because the DSL in it's stock form I guess Marshall just uses a resistor. Older Marshalls or most high quality amps used a choke. the choke is typically mounts with 2 screws/bolts. So I'm guessing this would require me drilling the chassis.

I've added some chokes to a few DSLs. It makes them feel better.
There's a few things you can do yourself, before changing out the iron, if you're handy with a solder iron. I'd be happy to share some info with you. Shoot me a PM or email me.

Cheers,
Mike

I've done the choke and put in both a Marstran tranny c1998 and tried Mecury one as well. Pesonally I would just do a choke and maybe some other small tweeks. I don't like the hi fi, sliver wire sound the MM had.

Both my Wizard heads have them. For a DSL I'd swap the choke first. I dont see any need to swap the P.T....

 So what kinda difference do you guys think changing the output tranny would make?

When I switched to the MM from stock in my JCM800 - the notes seem to jump out of the amp better. Also the high end seems less fizzy - with the MM tranny my jcm800 seems darker than the settings I used with the stock tranny - so I can turn up the treble and presence, but the high end is now more "airy" as opposed to fizzy.

My DSL has MM PT and choke. I heard it's a very easy switch, but I had mine done as a part of Voodoo's deluxe mod.

EDIT - ..hmmm...now I'm starting to question whether I have the MM choke?!?!

I had a Mesa DC-10 2x12 combo that I had a MM output transformer put in. It made it sound thicker and more aggressive while making it more defined/articulate. Was spendy, but if you plan on keeping the amp for a long time you won't be disappointed.
