For the past couple of years, I've been running a single channel amp. It's a Marshall 2204 JMP. I keep the gain control at around 2 o'clock, and I boost it with a Barber Super Sport. It's by far, my favorite rig I've ever had. I use it in my rock/progressive metal band, and it sounds awesome.

What about you guys, what single channel amps are you running?

I don't really understand the stigma of using a pedal to get your dirty sound. I have/ have had a ton of high gain amps including a Diezel VH4, Cameron and Friedman modded Marshalls, an original rev C Dual Rectifier, a Mark III, Tremoverb, Rectoverb, Triple Rec, 5150, TSL, a Mark IV. I'd put a boosted Marshall against any of the above any day of the week!

82 2204. Gain all up though, guitar volume for a pseudo clean. Boost it with an OD1X. I alternate that every other gig with a 2C+. But this 2204 sounds so good, I have to rotate. Lol.

I don't, but I've been interested in trying it since I saw Jon Hudson from Faith No More's rig on the last tour. He's used a single channel JCM800 and used 2 EQ pedals to great three "channels" out of it. One EQ boosted into high gain and the other cut it down to clean.

It sounded great live and it was an approach I'd never thought of before

I have 2 of them.

Krank Kerry King sig prototype and Fryette Deliverance 60.

I have 5 single channel amps, so I have 5 CHANNELS!

Yep deliverance D60 as well. Cleans up better than any amp I've ever owned. I run it in plexi(less) mode and roll back the guitar for clean; but most of the time boost it to high gain level. Played jcm800's forever, so it's just the way to make it a three channel now. I just traded a dual rec for a Jvm tho, which is the exact opposite of simple lol. We'll see how long it takes me to figure it out.

I dont but I leave all my amps on one channel...does that count?

That is pretty cool actually. Have used one for a lead boost before but not a cut. Makes sense.

4 out of 5 of the amps I use the most are single channel.
THD - Series One Plexi, Bivalve & Flexi 50.
Fryette - Deliverance 120
.... I also use my Sig X clean channel like a NMV amp.

2204 here as well. Sent all my multi channel amps packing.

Totally stock early 84 2204. One of the last vertical inputs. The sound of Rock!

It may have four inputs, but only one works. It sounds amazing.

No amp cleans up better than a Trainwreck, not even close.. I own a Deliverance D120, and they are completely different amps.

Here's a wank clip. Wait for it where I roll back and forth from bouncy clean to full blown EL34 distortion. My Mark V sound like swamp ass when I roll back..

Hmm..haven't tried a TW. But I've had both a D60/120, and in less mode with the guitar vol dialed back, as clean as clean can be. Then boost pedal it back when you need to, worked great.

I used a 2203 for so long, that i use my BE100 as a single channel amp. I don't have room for extra channel switchers anyway.

I just kinda do the opposite with it that i did with my 2203 though. Where I boosted my 2203 to get gain, i use a combination of my volume knob and the EHX Signal Pad to get clean tones on the BE.

I have several single channel heads. Langner 800, 2203KK, VHT Deliverance 120, Peters FSM....They all do what they do very well. But I am going for 1 tone,I don't roll off for a clean sound. That's what my acoustic is for.

In fact, I only use one channel on all of my multi-channel amps anyway. 2+ on the Herbert, rhythm on the UL,Lead on the ENGL,Metal 1 on the DAR...etc. but each one has its own flavor that tickles my taste buds.

Single channel/single purpose amps are great! Tho I don't use pedals to get the sound I want(I wanna hear what the amp has for me) I don't begrudge someone else doing the pedal shuffle. Do what works for you.

Yep, have a few - 2203 and 2204. With those 2 I use the Paul Gilbert DeTox pedal to get a usable clean. Same idea mentioned above, it is an EQ used as a cut but you can put some sparkle back in with the 3 knobs. One stomp and I'm there. I also have an 800 4 holer (1959) that I run clean b/c by the time you get any crunch it is wall shaking loud. I use that and get everything else from pedals. All my pedals seem to sound best through that amp.
