Who likes 85watt celestions and why ?

I have two early to mid 90's crate 2x12 cabs
With 85 watt celestions I do not like em .
It might be the cabs themselves ?
Any exp with Therese speakers ?
I'm not even sure how to remove them or change them ?
Looks to be sealed ?

Surely someone has an opinion on theese ?
Aren't they the same as the 100 watt later version?
I thought some people who wanted a metal tone liked them ?

I think more details are needed. Are they G12K85?? If so those are identical to the G12K100

They are g12k85 yes

Those are not bad speakers. I had a pair of them a while ago, but I prefer more classic sounding speakers like G12H30s, or greenbacks. The G12K85/G12K100 are good for hard rock, and metal. Usually sound good in front loaded cabs, They are one of the speakers that Diezel uses as stock. If I was guessing I would say that it is the cabs making them sound bad, or maybe they aren't your cup of tea.

But I don't think they are my bag ?
Both gt75 and g12k85 sound pearling harsh and shrill to me
I like. My v30's way better .
Soon I will find out what evh celestions sound like ?
Then it will be lynchbacks .
I think I will try to find someone who wants the 85's
And 75's then .

Cool, you might also want to check out the Jensen Electric lightning, those are my favourite speakers!!!

I got a deal I could not refuse for two crate 2x12's
With them ..
I think I will try some evh speakers in them or should I say some heritage ?

I have 2 85's that I run a jet city into and they are great...I find they a kind of a flat sound so you really hear the amp..they also have a nice smooth bottom end. I find with things like V30's and greenbacks you hear the speakers character more than the amp in some ways and that annoys me

Hmm no matter what I try they sound to me like someone is holding me down while someone else is stabbing me in the ear with an ice pic ?
Even my wife when asked said it kinda sounds like it is coming out of a pop can .
Might be a combination of the crate cab and fenders are kinda bright anyway ?
It might have been easier when I thought my hoghner amp and dod American metal pedal sounded great back when I was a teenager ?

I think Greenbacks, Creambacks, or Eminence Swamp Thangs would give you a nicer, smoother sound. But, you might want to consider upgrading to a better cab overall anyway. Nice cabs can be found for reasonable prices used, and should last you a while.

I already have a Marshall 1960a 4x12 gt75 soon to be placed.
A bogner Ecstacy cab 4x12 v30's
A bogner überkab 2 v30's 2 gt75 soon to be replaced with 2 lynchbacks.

Plus when it arrives a evh 1x12 I also have a evm12l
That I will try in the evh 1x12 then maybe get another evh50 speaker and do the x pattern in the Marshall 4x12 not sure ?
I just use the crate cab for noodling around the house .
