I always thought it would be cool to build a dual 100 in a marshall chassis. just the power sections. make it look like a 100 head.

What a great idea!

In the late 80's Peter Diezel has modded Marshall heads w/ 2*50W stereo power stage w/ 2 stacked laydown OT's.

Dirk Baldringer even has modded Marshall heads w/ 2*100W power stage and altogether 8 EL34's on the chassis.
IIRC the PT was of a Marshall Major and 2 100W OT's standing side by side. But the output tubes were standing verrrrry close together on the chassis.
Wolf Hoffmann of Accept has had one of these beasts at that time. What a monster!

Thats Bitchen Larry.
You can just say "hey jerry someone did do it back in the 80's. "

You make the trek over here just to bust people balls or is there some sort of mankind saving knowledge in your monthly visits?

Larry,

Were you trying to be a dick, or does that just happen naturally- for you?

WOW...

What's your prob, Jerry?

I've mentioned the two modded amps as kind of examples on the way to your idea.
There's none, who's built just a stereo power amp in a Marshall head cab yet and I really thought, that's a great idea!
Vol I, Pres I, Depth I, Vol II, Pres II, Depth II = 6 knobs. Looks like a Marshall, but is a stereo power amp - still a great idea IMO!

if you were being genuine then I am sorry sir. It looks like youre saying how could I not know the deizel guy alreayd did it in the 80's. I dont claim to be anything , certainly Im no great amp builder designer. I design what I think sounds killer to me and fortunately, some people have liked it enough to buy a few amps.

Sorry sir.

No prob, Jerry - and yes, I really were being genuine with saying, that it's a great idea!

I can't expect, that you in the USA would know, what some moddeers did here in Germany in the late 80's.
And they didn't do these mods in large numbers. AFAIK Dirk Baldringer made the 2*100W head only once for Wolf Hoffmann. I also can't imagine, that Peter Diezel made the 2*50W head more than 3-5 times. Maybe it's also only an unicate?

Rock on!

Larry

I don't know if you guys have bad history with Larry or not but I read nothing boasting, sarcastic or antagonistic in his reply so WTF. If there is bad blood, c'iest la vie I guess.

Larry, thanks for the interesting history.

i think someone posted pictures of wolfman's 8x tube poweramplifier modified marshall, and i remember seeing a different topic about someone asking what marshall the marshall major was due to its large power tube count. i even remember the discussion about the tolex coming unglued off the wood above the tubes and how the plastic tube screen thing had warped :scared:

its just a cultural thing I beleive. we all have different ways of saying the same thing and on the internet you cant see the dude face to face. Sometimes the comment appears to be something its not. Anyways, problem solved. Im half German Hes gotta love .

I understand that, but before you assume someone's taking the piss you might want to ask them before jumping on them. We have, or, have had a few trolls but in general I would say anyone who posts on this board doesn't approach people that way. Maybe the subject matter but not the person. I'm not high horsing, I've fucked up in the past and assumed someone was attacking me and it wasn't that serious at all and I blew it into an unnecessary shitstorm. I always assume it's cool now until it's obviously not. Glad you guys quickly smoothed it over, Rock On.

yep.
gotta get back to the lets see Don get in trouble thread.

Thanks for the err....responses... ;)

After reading Suhr's reply to the Reinhold Bogner quote, I am intrigued as far as the preamps reacting better to amp heads vs. traditional power amps. I was aware of the Marshall EL34 100/100 (and 50/50) but figured they aren't the cats meow since nobody really talks about them.

I should have phrased my question better by asking if, theoretically, you were to take just the plexi power section, throw it in a chassis w/ the trannies, etc. and integrated that into a power amp, would it be more reactive, say, than the current traditionally known power amps?

Even though I own rack gear, I am a noob with lots of it. Much more familiar w/ heads & combos.

any amplifier with an effects return thats designed properly with a level control and input level selection will allow you to use the power section from any separate preamp

i will say that you can use any effects loop return, although without a control for input level you will need a preamp with volume control, otherwise you will get a rude awakening the second you reach for your guitar knob. the level control allows for correct voltage level selection for optimum operation.
