I just watched an original one go for 350$ on Ebay, and there is no way I am paying that.
What are some other options?

the evh one I should say.

I've heard that the new custom shop "script" model is the same thing as the EVH model, but in the script mode?

I dunno. I found one for $60 on a closeout deal. helluva mark down from retail.

Just get the newer block letter one and do the R28 mod to it. I doubt you could hear a difference between it and the script version. I just got one a couple weeks ago off ebay for around $60 and did the mod and it sounds fantastic.

Didn't know they released a custom shop script logo version. Cool!

I have a reissue with the R28 mod but it's almost too subtle and slightly harsh. I'd like to A/B it against that new custom shop script logo pedal.

Personally, I like true bypass pedals and as far as I know, the MXR stuff isn't. The BYOC script phaser is, as well as the HBE Psilocybe.

 True bypass = your friend. If you want me to put together a BYOC kit for you let me know! I can do it for the same price as the MXR and you'll have a true bypass version of the same thing.

I had a true bypass switch put in my MXR '74,...

That is what I plan on doing, IF i notice tone suckage

Hey, what is it you like about the MXR '74 script phaser over the BYOC script phaser? I love this BYOC! It's very lush and subtle. Like I said, to me it almost sounds like a vibe.

Chris

The BYOC didn't handle the higher gain as well as I liked and yes, it was a but subltle, but a bit too much. I had mine pre-built by Axeandyoushallrecieve. I read somewhere by one of those EVH fanatics at Plexi Palace that the BYOC still isn't true spec to the originals. From what i understand, the MXR '74 was built identically to one of the originals, someone in the shop has one. I thought the BYOC was better than all the others I tried, Script 90 reissue, EVH, Retro-Sonic, but I just like this new one better and it looks cooler

Yeah...i am a sucker for looks, and i like the looks of the MXR :D

yes the 74' script that barzini is talking about is great out of the box. I have an orginal 70's block logo one that i put a true bypass in and I actually like using it when im playing clean amp settings because it is not as subtle and low endy as the script version..very open and a little brighter. Im definitely going to get the bypass for the script version though when i get around to it.

I just ordered mine from a local 'boutique' store: i got lucky, they ordered theirs from the Custom Shop with a LED :)

Are you sure you got the '74 Vintage? The regular reissue Script 90 comes with or without LED so you'll want to make sure.

Oh well, i will get to try before I buy anyways. I only put a deposit because he is getting a couple this week. If it is the wrong one, i will just have him order me the other.

EDIT:Tks for pointing that out to me Mr Barzini ;)

I have a Script Phase 90 and 100. I used the Phase 90 forever. It started to weird me out seeing how much they go for now. I picked up an EVH Phase 90 and its super close to my old one. I really like the EVH one....use it all the time for stuff, very cool pedal!

I have a Dunlop Phase 90 with a Cap and R28 mod. I also have a EVH phase 90, the bypass is better on the EVH phase 90. both sound pretty similar, I like the EVH a bit more. I do notice some tone suckage when off, but neither is bad. I have heard that if you use more than one MXR pedal in your chain you are asking for major tone suckage. Both the pedals I have would be a pain to mod and make true bypass as the switches are PCB mounted (as I remember).

maybe urban legend, but i've heard that MXR's and Boss's buffers somehow complement each other when you have one each in your chain?

I run a bunch of pedals and I dont' think any are true bypass. As long as my VHT V-1 is first there is no difference in tone. I tried without it once....it was NOT good!
