it's a long way off, but I'm thinking of getting a custom guitar at some point in the next year. Who would you order one from and why? what would you get?

in my case, I'm after an LP body (possibly Explorer), 7 string, baritone scale neck, high output passive pups, all black (hopefully stained rather than painted) with no inlays on the fretboard, and a custom inlay on a classic Gibson or Guild shaped headstock, and stringthrough with a set neck. not sure what wood yet, something really resonant. basically an ESP MKH-7 with a longer scale neck and no stupid deathcore/emo signature on the fretboard.

whaddya think? what have you dreamed up and who would you trust to build it?

I've always wanted what at the time was a custom job. A BC rich mockingbird build like a Les Payl. Mahogany body, carved maple top, everything on it just like an LP but the Mockinbird body. I think they make those now, it's not a custom job. Edit, yes they just make them now. http://www.bcrich.com/models/guitars-an ... cial-X/132

Other than that, probably a two EMG 89 equipped Jackson, neck thorough, reverse headstock, Probably some obnoxious green color.

Just ONE? I'd get three! All Ibanez... I've tried other guitars and while they sound and play good, I just cannot get away from the Wizard necks that Ibanez makes. My hands just fly on them

LP Shape, Mahogany body, Maple Fretboard - Block inlays
RR-V Shape, Mahogany Body, Maple Fretboard - Vine/Tree of Life inlays
RG/Superstrat Shape - Arch-top Mahogany body, Maple Fretboard - Pyramid inlays

I'm a simple guy, kinda?

Gary Hines produced an incredible specimen for a fellow forumite not too long ago - a custom LP style guitar. Stunning:

That being said, I am unsure an LP style body would bode well with a 7 string set up... Even an Explorer, might be hard to get in the upper registers. This is why superstrats are more akin to the 7 string set. Just my thoughts.

I'd be looking at RS Guitarworks for a San Dimas 2 style guitar with maple neck and black block inlays, Floyd Rose and in a bright green or a Workhorse like this

That being said Luxxtone are making some very nice looking guitars at the moment

for me:

a bernie rico of some design...im sure i'd come up with something he'd almost refuse to make

andy beech les paul type with 24 frets and a fast, flat wizard type neck.

a caldwell golddust http://www.nstuffmusic.com/p-13731-cald ... -dust.aspx

i played it 2 years ago, and went back to buy it, and it was sold 2 months later...had THE BEST strat type neck i've ever touched. i played it in store for 3 hours b4 i put it down. if i ever get the money, i'll go to him and have that guitar remade for me before i get another guitar.

dean built me a bunch of one-off customs in flamed redwood, quilt and custom paint. usa deans are great guitars.

but i got a custom gutierrez build, and have not played anything else since. pm juggernaut for a quote.

KxK makes an LP style 7 string. It's neck through though. And he's been shying away from the longer scale length lately. You could ask him. He's my favorite builder so far. I haven't played one of his SC's, but his guitars usually have ridiculous upper fret access.

If I was getting one for myself there's no question it would be a Charvel Custom Shop.

If I was getting something like what the original poster wanted, I would probably go wuith a Jackson.

2 days in, im REALLY loving my craig custom tele. not sure i love the kent armstrong pickups in it though....but that's easily remedied.

If you can live without the inlay on the headstock... literally EVERYTHING you described is done by this man...

http://www.hufschmidguitars.com/guitars.cfm

The man is unbelievable to work with, and seems to make exactly what you want... I am biased because I am currently having a guitar built by him, but that's to be expected, shoot him an E-mail, he is in Switzerland, they are 6 hours ahead... I guarantee you will receive a response within the hour if he's awake, his communication is on a completely different level.

His guitars aren't technically "custom" guitars tho... the best way I would describe it is having an amazing painting done for you, you give the artist a general outline of what you want, and then let them create...

That Blackwater guitar looks crazy cool!

Parker or Zion

I'd want an ergonomic guitar with stainless steel frets, stable trem system, sustainer and midi. Kind of like the Adrian Belew sig from Parker, but without the Variax technology.

I have a couple "super teles" I've dreamed up that I would have G&L build. I also would love a Blackmachine.
