I installed the Aldrich's in an LP this weekend. I love the clarity, but it's a darker pickup than I was expecting. I had to re-EQ the SLO with considerably more treble. Not excessive, but more than was necessary w/ the stock burstbuckers. Anyone else find this too? Or did I just screw up the installation?

I put one in the bridge of my Les Paul. One of the reason I did was because the stock bridge was too bright and too weak. It is now perfect.

I have the set in my '04 LP standard LE and just the bridge in my '73 LP custom. I really like them, I love the clarity. I also like how the aldrich neck can handle gain.

Here is an old post where I described the change in the LP standard.

"Got the Suhr Aldrich pickups in and installed in my LP standard. I also replaced thed pots, the 2 tone pots became push pull pots so I could coil split the pickups. The stock volume pots were 300k, the stock tone pots were 500k. I put all 500k pots in.

So far I really like the Aldrich pickups, they are clear, yet full. I don't hear the tendency for harsh treble like I got from the stock Burstbucker pro #1 and #2. The clean was a little worse on the neck Aldrich pickup, but still good. The neck Aldrich could be a touch warmer, but sounds good. It lacks some of the Chime that the BBpro1 had. It does take gain a lot better. So overall its an improvement. The Bridge is a huge improvement, much more full and beefy and versatile. It is smoother than the BBQ in my other Les Pauls. The split of both pickups is not that great. The bridge splits alot better than the neck, its a nice option to have.

So far I am really happy with the change..."

Hey Bill, I have them in one of my Pauls too and speaking of the SLO, I just bought one a while back and played out with it for the first time over the Holidays and noticed it sounded dark and a little too thick with the EQ at B 7 M 3 T 4 and the presence 5....standard eddie setting lol didnt have time for sound check or dialing it in...how you got it dialed in?

I guess I'll be the "odd man out." I really don't care too much for them. I've had two different sets in two different guitars but, they were a no-go for me :dunno:

Must be my Bareknuckle fanboism :D

After some tweaking on amps and fine tuning on pup height, I'm really liking these in both LP's. I'm not used to this much clarity- a double edged sword for someone of my skills because they're not forgiving.

War Admiral- first, I run my mids much higher than you. My first SLO w/ depth mod was bright as hell and I ran the treble at 1-2. This one is stock and no where near as bright. Current settings are: B-3, M-8, T-4, P-3. At least that's what they look like today. Tomorrow's a new day!
