Less of a pissing contest and more of a "why I love this guy's pickups and think he's the best"

If I forgot your favorite winder, sorry, there are too many guys to list by name in the poll so I put some of the bigger names in pickup design in there and will leave it to you to add your thoughts on why you love what you do. Best-VBF

Of those mentioned Tim Shaw and Bill Lawrence would definitely be the 2 best.
I think I would agree with this assessment. I believe Shaw had a hand in the '57 classics which just smoke in a ES and BL pioneered the rail humbuckers (supposedly Joe Barden did also) and his pickups are some of the best pedal steel pickups on the market also. His 710 is magical.

Jim Wagner or @scottosan - their pickups sound the best.
I've heard one of the Wagners sound great in an LP. Another member shared a clip with me of one of Scottosan's Roxy and it was sounding really killer.

Those two are my literal favorite pickups ever :dunno:

I'm a les paul guy though, I can understand liking other stuff if you like superstrats etc

But for les paul pickups, those two are apex mountain

What Wagner would you recommend for a neck pickup in my Viper? I was thinking of something a little darker & hotter than the 490r I have in there, though that pickup sounds pretty good as is.

I would guess the crossroads, darkburst, or fillmore for a neck pickup - they all sound good, just varying degrees of output

Don't make me go JAMES TYLER on you.

I was close to going with one of those FIllmores but now I remember he didn't have a gold cover option on his site, lol. I gotta call him or what?

Or email him, i've done both. He's done special orders for me before in basically every color option.

Copy. That Fillmore had the higher output but still can be PAF like if I recall. Seems interesting. Might have to check that out one of these days.

It's very 70s sounding IIRC - it is definitely like a higher output PAF style

I still want to try my super distortion in the neck if only for fun and games. My beef was it didn't pair very well in my Edwards LP with the Lollar in the bridge. Now I have the Lollar in the bridge of the Viper and the SD in the bridge of the LP. That LP has had more pickups in it than a Chevy dealership lol.

Personally I have a hard time finding neck pickups I like in gibson scale guitars - Scotts A2 custom he made me is probably the best, but it's always a battle of finding something with enough treble content
