Who's using Jamup?

Ok, so I just upgraded to the latest IPhone 5S. I am ready to get jam up going but I had a few questions before I purchase.

What exactly is the difference between jam up xt and jam up pro xt?

Also, what amp packages are included? I see there are in app purchases available such as the metal pack and metal pack 2 for an additional $10 each.

Pick one or the other, the paid jamup xt or the free one. Not both and do not plan to switch later. I lost a bunch of stuff I bought in the free version when I bought the paid version. Purchases DO NOT transfer so choose wisely.

Bias has all of the amps in it man. Buy that, upload em to JamUp and then buy effects pedals. Saves money.

Confusing. So if you have BIAS you don't need jam up pro, only need jam up?

Also what's the difference between jam up and jam up pro?

I just bought BIAS for $7.99 and will get the DIY interface rig tomorrow if I can find all the cables. I guess the only thing I need now is Jam up but I want to find out what the differences are first between jamup and jamup pro.

Edit: after looking through bias it seems the difference between jam up and jam up pro is just a few fx and stomp boxes? Please confirm.

Couldn't find the Merrow/Englund set ups in bias but that tone cloud looks pimp nasty, I'm kind of excited about this.

JamUp is the free app they did so you could try it out, and JamUp Pro is the paid version that has more amps and effects. JamUp Pro came out months before BIAS did, so we didn't really have a choice.

You can just get BIAS, make amps and then throw them into JamUp and you're good. The effects are decent; some better than others. I'm mostly using separate apps for effects, but the Ola delay is a favorite. The Merrow pack has a bomb 5150 in it. Also, if you D/L a patch from JamUp that uses effects you don't have, it won't sound like it's supposed to.

I'd say get BIAS and the effects you'd use, and you'll be fine. Also start looking at effects apps, and make sure you get Audiobus to chain JamUp/BIAS together with those apps and with GarageBand if you want to record clips or scratch tracks or just save ideas.

Hmm. Ok, but can you say what exactly jam up PRO has that jam up doesn't?

I mean how many more amps/effects does jam up pro have that BIAS and jam up don't?

Is that where I can find the Ola/loomis stuff?

Sorry to keep asking over and over but I'm aware pro has more amps/effects than just jam up but what I don't know is does pro have stuff that BIAS Doesnt? If so what are they?

It's all good man, don't worry about asking.

So you get JamUp as a free app, right? It has a couple pedals and 1 amp, just so you can mess around with it and see if you like it.

JamUp Pro is for if you dug it and wanted more amps and more FX. If you buy the Pro version, you get like 10 more amps or whatever and a few more FX. If you look at the free app, down in the bottom there's a row of buttons. The one on the left look like a shopping cart. Punch that, and it'll take you to the JamUp store, and you can look at amps, FX, and bundles like the Loomis stuff and the Ola and Merrow stuff.

You can see what's in the bundles before you buy.

The Metal sig pack is the Loomis/Merrow/Ola stuff and their pedals; delays and ODs and whatever.

Just check the bundles and see what you'd want, and buy accordingly. The packs are a good deal because you get the FX too.

BIAS doesn't have FX, it's only for creating amps.

After you make an amp in BIAS, you can import it into JamUp (either version) and use it whenever you want, with any combination of FX that you have.

That's why I said just grab BIAS and use the free version, because pretty much all the amps are in there and you can just import em as you need em.

The Tone Cloud is for grabbing the BIAS amps that people have already made; you D/L em to BIAS, and then import those to JamUp too so you can use em.

I grabbed most of the stuff, but this was before BIAS came out so I didn't have the options you do.

Thanks for all the help guys. I'm gonna try and find the DIY parts today for the ghetto rig converter. Otherwise if I can't I may just go ahead and snag an Apoggee Jam on eBay. Will definitely be back to post my feedback.

If I've purchased JamUp or the soon to be released BIAS for iPhone, do I also get the iPad version for the cost, or is that another app and another purchase?

Someone talk them into designing a Pro Tools plugin.

Everyone is wondering this right now. I'm gonna say based on the way that the free jamup and jamup pro are NOT compatible, apple forced them to be two separate apps so the purchases I made in the free version didn't transfer and I had to buy them again. F apple.

That having been said I'm sure it will not be free.

Bias was $20 at launch then $12 when I bought it and $6 for NAMM.

I will pay for it for my phone, I'll just wait a bit this time around and get it for cheap.

The truth is even if it costs another $20 it is totally worth it.

You're theory about Apple forcing them doesn't make any sense, when Jamup Pro is a universal app, AmpKit+ is a universal app, GarageBand is a universal app, etc.

Positive grid is the one who said that, no theory direct from horses mouth when i complained.

Sorry, I don't really buy it, when there are a ton of universal apps out there, including their own JamUp app. Is that what they said to you in an email or FB or something? If that's truly the case, I'd think Apple would be phasing out universal apps altogether.

I got the Apoggee jam used and to my dismay I realized there is no 1/4" line out which bothers me.

I am using Iphone 5s.

I want to use BIAS through a power amp and cab but also want to run it to my TC impact twin into Reaper for recording.

I see the Line6 sonic port does have a 1/4" line out.

Is there any audio benefit to using the line 6 line out vs. using the headphone jack from my iphone (1/8" to 1/4" adapter) or will they both be equal?

I've got jamup and bias. Using a griffin studio connect and loving it!!! Also just got. Line6 amplifi 150. Not using the apps as much but will be back to them soon I'm sure.

I think it's just easier to deal with, depending on what you're wanting to connect to. I've had both, and there's no apparent quality or latency difference between them.

Hey JR@PositiveGrid,

I recently got an Iphone 5 and tried out the Jamup XT Lite. I liked the amp & effects modeling, the meternome, Jam, and tuner features. I also noticed it was on sale so I bought the XT Pro, Bias, and a couple of the amp expansion packs for $4.99 each. :) For $20.00 for the apps plus another $20.00 for the Jamup plug, I have a very full featured portable guitar rig in my Iphone 5. It's nice to plug in the Jamup Plug, practice my playlist using the Jam feature with the pitch & speed adjustments with my presets, and be able to take just my guitar/an instrument cable/my Iphone 5/ Jamup Plug/headphones to practice anywhere. Before that, I was using a Korg Pandora PX-3, an MP3 player, and an 1/8" to 1/4" stereo cable to practice which I always found a little bit awkward & bulky.

I'm working on programming more presets to suit my sound and will be working on trying out the Bias app in my home studio.
