Like a few other guys here, I went to a Steve Lynch clinic in 1988 or 89. I left thinking "wow, I'm a better guitar player than the dude in Autograph". He basically gave out a handwritten sheet of tab with a few of his solos. It was real complicated...squares were hammer-ons with right hand index, triangles were the middle finger, circles were the ring finger, etc. Problem was, after the solo to Turn up the Radio, there really wasn't anything else that anyone would want to learn. I will say, that solo does kick-ass though.

when i seen him in the early- mid 90s,he basically said to rip off the drum beat of the most popular song on MTV and write a song around that beat cuz people are already into it.

i was like WTF.

From a commercial point of view, I can see where he is coming from.

Vinnie Moore
Paul Gilbert
Billy Sheehan
Tony MacAlpine
Reb Beach
Gary Hoey
Marty Friedman

edit: a few I met but no "clinic"

Satriani
Yngwie
Doug Aldrich
Richie Kotzen

i agree,i see that side of it.i just never thought of things that way.i guess it was like the unwritten law or something to me.i was in my mid 20s in my first real playing cover band.and i like to think i'm pretty open-minded.i wasn't an autograph fan,i was there for the experience and educational aspect of it all.i was actually playing bass at the time and went with my guitar player.i guess i took it as "don't think for yourself,be a follower".

but then again,he got a lil farther along than i did. :D
