Why all the hate for the DS-1?

I just ran my DS-1 through my Blackheart 5 watt Little Giant amp and it sounds great. Very fat and warm. A little Carbon Copy and the tone is very nice.

Just sayin'.

I've never really understood why everyone on the internet hates the DS-1, I think it's pretty awesome.

I'd definitely use a DS-1 over the POD HD. Heck I'd use it rather than any Line6 product.

With the distortion knob all the way down it gets really spongy, which is great for doom sounds. I think Candlemass used one in front of their amps for their tones, and Candlemass rules.

They did? Shit that's awesome, I love their tone.

Take the MIJ DS-1. Put a Suhr logo on it, and sell it for $250 and you'd see gushing reviews and youtube videos all over the place for it.

A friend of mine ran the MIJ version of the DS-1 through his Fender amps and it sounded pretty damm good. He was getting better results than i was with a Suhr Riot pedal through the clean channel of a Lonestar.
Let's hear a clip then.

Seriously, I used a DS1 as an overdrive into a crunch sound, great results. Even works with the gain at '0'. Fat lead sounds. Schon and a bunch of other
legends used it this way. As a distortion pedal...maybe not so much.

FWIW I think the Suhr Riot sounds much better into Fenders than it does Mesas. I wouldn't be too premature with the negative comments, it's a great pedal.

Almost any od/distortion pedal will sound at least decent as a boost when set up with gain at Zero, level up high because they all basically do the same thing to your sound. It's not until you put it up against some other pedals that you'll notice how flat and sterile it sounds. Seriously, try an OS-2 or a Blues Driver, or BB, or Eternity, or 808 right after you try your DS-1 and you'll see what I mean. It sounds ok, but as said earlier there are lots of better pedals for boosting and stand alone distortion boxes.

I've never actually played a Blues Driver through my rig, but I've always been interested in it. Do you think (and I know this isn't its primary purpose) it would work decently as a boost on a crunch tone? Really I am looking for that perfect boost for doom metal lately for some reason. My DS-1 and Big Muff, while being awesome pedals, clip the input on my amp and lowering the output level doesn't help. I think the amp just doesn't like seeing clipped input signals for some reason. My other amps do not do this.

I think it's a combination of three things...

1. It's doesn't sound amazing. I mean... It's decent, but not great.
2. Mods like the one from Keeley shows how easy it would be to make so much better.
3. Alot of people uses distortionpedals as their main distortion, and the DS-1 doesn't sound to good with the distortion pushed. Or the tone pushed, for that matter.

But hey... It has it's uses. Even stock. Mine is actually put in the signalchain of my cleansound. Go figure.
