I scored a nice quad of Blackback 30's off of eBay....got the speakers today and all 4 cones are fucked up. The ass hat thought it was s good idea to put bubble wrap against the face of the cones  then boxed up all four on their SIDES in another box.  I specifcally told the guy that I would pay more for shipping since I know how easily speakers can get damaged.

I am so pissed off that I sent him a message and immediately opened a case with paypal for the total cost including shipping (he charged me $79 to ship 4 speakers from MS to PA  ) since it wasn't the shippers fault that the ass-hat didn't know how to box everything up correctly.

UGGGGGGGGHHHHHHH
Shit... :gethim:

BTW - has your cab shipped yet???

Without having the original speaker boxes what is the best way to ship them? I've actually been reluctant to sell some of my speakers because I wasn't sure how to do it properly.

Individually boxed, just big enough to fit the speaker in, facing cone up, magnet down.

I've never had boxes just lying around that fit a speaker perfectly.

But you can cut boxes down to size and tape it up.

reshipping in the Weber isn't so great either! got to be really carefull with thier boxes, as they'll fit 12" or 15" and the crappy little cardboard ring isn't really enough without some extra attention.

luckely i've only had to send an hour picking peanuts off the cone dope.

So the jackass was selling them already f'ed? They should yank his ebay account .

What the hell is wrong with people?

That sucks man! When I have shipped speakers i have put them cone to cone and used 4 nylon tie straps through the mount holes to hold them together so that there is no way the cones could be damaged without coming through the frame. Seemed to work pretty good for me. Requires a pretty big box. Don't know if it's right but it has worked a couple times with no problems. Of course I used plently of packing material around the rest of speaker. :dunno:

Welp, I got lucky... the selled admitted that the speakers were damaged before shipping. He issued me a refund and I am sending the speakers back. The thing that sucks is that I really wanted the speakers. Its no secret that they are my favorite and I am sad to see the speakers beat up :(

He should refund all your money and expect no speakers back. The guy intentionally inconvenienced you and now expects you to return merchandise he knew was damaged in the first place? Not right.

That's brutal man, sorry to hear!

I shipped out speakers before. I cut out some plywood in squares larger than the speakers and bolted them on. The buyer was shocked that I went that length but was super happy when they arrived in perfect condition.

I read once, this is the correct way.

Yup, that or just a lenght of plywood. It`s probably easier to pack them economically with squares.

I had a similar experience recently. The guy just threw the speaker in a cube-shaped box with some newspaper. The cone and dust cap were all smashed up. Either he didn't care or is just really dumb.

Some simple guidelines for packing speakers:

- The speaker must not move in the box.
- The cone must be protected, i.e. something flat and stiff needs to cover the cone and you also need to make sure that packing materials don't poke the cone through the basket.

Packing ANYTHING properly is just a matter of common sense. Try to imagine everything that could go wrong inside and outside the box and do what it takes to guard against it.

Sory to hear this Dave, why people do this to others is beyond me.

About boxes the Avatar boxes that they use are great, very tight and secure.
