Anyone who says the Quick Rod can't do metal should look into drums. :hys:

I'm definitely going to shoot for a Splawn sometime in 2013 (maybe small shell 50w), either Super Comp (Nitro) or Pro Stock (Quick Rod). Both of these sound so damn good... it's a hard decision, but Splawns are so well priced. I can't stop listening to clips of 'em over the past couple of weeks.

I think when things get back to normal for me again and I get back to playing regularly I'm going to have to pick up a Quick Rod. I'm beginning to think that amp is right up my alley.

I tabbed the Jeff Loomis solo. :hys:

I can't believe it took me this long to pick up a Quick Rod.
Weird mids and all :dunno: it's the perfect amp for what I play.
Actually just snatched up another one too. Newer version with switchable gears and loop/MV control.
Interested to do a side-by-side comparison.

How well do the high gain channels of the QR or Nitro clean up? I don't actually need clean, but if they get down to a good pop/rock usable gain that'd be great. Since I want a 50w single channel eventually, mostly worried that I'll be stuck in one sound and will have too much gain to be usable for anything else.

Actually i need to try that with gears 2&3. Honestly i play metal on 1st gear OD2 with a boost and in 1st gear rolling back volume on plexi/gear 1 works very very well. I may also note the splawn loves some volume and is literally probably the loudest amp Ive played

Because it's a doorstop.

With weird mids

As you can clearly see at 0:24, Ola has EQ'd the weird mids out !!

LOL! :D
I'm assuming you're joking. The alleged weird mids are not in the 200Hz range, it's like in the 7-800Hz if I remember correctly. I say "remember" because I don't think there's anything weird about the mids so I'm going by what others say.

Nothing wrong with the mids IMO either. Unless present, cutting and meaty are considered weird. :dunno:

Depends where you run the gain as to how well the amp cleans up. I'm using Gear 1 with the gain dimed, so no... it doesn't really clean up much when you roll volume back. I just use the clean channel for either cleans or light break up.

yeah - it was a complete joke, I like the QR mids. When I had an old 3 pre QR - the mids cut great!

  I was just watching that video last night...Sounds Killer......Splawn amps rock

Know what's even funnier? The fact that many men who own many different amps all have to use an Ola video to show how great their amp can do metal. :D Ola is great, but he pretty much gets the same sound with 40 different amps that he's demoed.

Coming next week. "Rectos can't do metal." <insert OLa demo>

"Mark IV can't do metal." <insert OLa demo>

"Uber can't do metal." <insert OLa demo>

"Diezels can't do metal." <insert OLa demo>

"Bugera can't do metal." <insert OLa demo>
