Why doesn't every guitar come with a wrench for truss rod?

A lot of folks don't have any business cranking on that truss rod adjustment....

But in reality it probably comes down to saving a few cents per unit.

Guitar stores, some in particular, are notorious for losing that kind of stuff.

Because a lot of retailers don't want to deal with a warped neck.

Think about little Billy bringing back his pointy necked axe with a fucked up neck. The warranty is now voided in most cases. The store doesn't want to be the man in the middle (and lose business) so they get rid of it.

We used to keep the truss rods in three of the four stores I've worked in just for the above reason.

Every new guitar I've bought has come with a truss wrench for that specific guitar. I can only think of a few used ones that didn't have one come to think of it. I would be pissed if a new one didn't come with it, and I would make sure they gave me one, that's bs. It's an important part for regular maintenance.

Guess I'm unlucky. My ESP custom came with one, my Les Paul Custom didn't.

Seriously?
Even my grandmother has a set of hex keys

My wood needs a good twist, do you think I could call her? :scared:

Hex would be fine for some, but some require a socket to twist the nut. They aren't universal.

I've never bought a "new" guitar that didn't come with all necessary allen/truss wrenches.

That being said, if you're doing your own truss/setup work, it's time to hit up Stewmac and invest in tools, the $$$ is minimal.

I've never understood how people jack up their necks with a trussrod adjustment. Are they using an impact wrench??? I've been adjusting my own truss rods since the 80s and have never had an issue. And I'm not one to subscribe to the "only turn it 1/8 of a turn and then wait for it to settle" kind of thing either. If I think my neck needs a half turn on the truss, then I do it and THEN I firmly (but not TOO firmly) flex the neck in the direction that I adjusted it to help it along to its new shape. I usually just do it a quarter turn at a time, but I wouldn't be paranoid to go more if I felt I was that far off.

Btw... I LOVE adjusting the truss rods on my Music Man and Sterling guitars and basses. Talk about quick and easy! All guitars should be that easy. No truss cover and no allen wrench.
