I just bought a 40 watt Tweaker head and 2x12 cab. I was wondering if anyone knows what the thought process is for having a grill in the middle of the back of the 2x12 cab. I assume it for some tone purposes, but not sure what that would be. Seems to me that the cab is neither a true closed or open back.

Thanks For any info

Dave

It is there so you can check out the tubes. Looks good eh?

he doesn't have a combo, he's talking about his semi-open-backed cab.

That's there for tonal reasons only in my opinion.

What could I have been thinking?
Well, the grill is to help you bias the speakers..

Actually the grill helps create the perfect balance between open back and closed back. I've had both over the years and now have two 1x12 tweaker cabs. Love the fact that the lows are tighter than an open back but the mids are still somewhat open sounding (like a regular open back). Great speaker cab design and for the first time, I like a Celestian speaker (in these cabs). Top end is really smooth and not as "pointed " and beamy as a closed back cab.

I would think the grill is there to keep people from putting stuff like cords and footswitches in there and damaging the speaker. It's just an open back cabinet like Fender and many others.

I used to put my crap in the back of cheap combos lol
