Why I still love my Egnater Mod 50

So a few days ago I notice my sound cutting in and out while using my Egnater Mod 50. Like an educated and levelheaded guitarist I didn't freak out; I figured it was most likely tube related. Sure enough, I had a totally dead power tube in one socket, and a dying tube in the other. No problem! I grabbed some spare 6L6's and read the super easy instructions on biasing the new tubes. I broke out my multimeter, set it to mV, popped in the new tubes, used the test points, and biased my amp. Even with me being super anal and making absolutely sure I was doing it correctly, it took 10 minutes... including me rechecking my measurements, etc...

After almost 3 years of ownership, I STILL LOVE THIS AMP! I recently acquired a Mesa Mark IV in trade, and I don't even play it. The Mod is king!

PS The Electro Harmonix Freeze pedal is awesome.

I think the only problem with these amps is that it's so damn hard to find one. At least in Europe that is. I'd love to try one out!

I absolutely loved me Mod50. There was absolutely nothing about that amp that I didn't like. Now if we could get Bruce to put the Mod50 power section in a rack, I'd be in heaven!

The Eggie stuff doesn't get much love lately but the M4 is still the best preamp I've played through or owned.

I agree about the power section, although the RT2/50 does a great job in a rack too.

Interestingly, someone posted a thread in the Eggie forum this week complaining about how the MOD50's power section lacked punch.......I'm not too sure what that's all about, as my MOD50 has killer punch for a 50 watter.......

Agreed. The M4 is the best tube preamp out there, by far. Small (2 rack spaces), versatile/flexible, easy to dial in and sounds incredible.

It's a terrible shame that such a fine piece of gear is no longer being produced.
