Why is it acceptable to goop pedals, but not amps?

An Xotic pedal cost less than 200 bucks so i wouldn't care if it was gooped, and it's their original design. I think gooping up a Marshall that someone else owns is shady.

But who was the innovator of the goop?  I know in the early 90's Dumble was gooping his own amps with blobs of orange stuff as reported in that 1994 Guitar World amp shootout. Maybe he spilled some cheese doodles on his amp and got the idea that way.

I had an Xotic EP Booster that wasn't gooped, can someone tell me which of their pedals they goop cause I won't buy them.

I personally wouldn't want to buy anything gooped be it pedal, amp, whatever....

I put goop on my BYOC pedals, to keep me from copying them in the future. :)

So Barzini, I see your liberal use of the term 'scameron' implies you take issue with Cameron amps and mods?? Interesting. I know nothing about Camerons other than what I've read here, but what's wit the 'scan' connotation??

Peace,
V.
Mo, I've heard rumors that if you dig deep enough there's a remote chance you may be able to find one or two instances where Mr. Cameron may have exhibited some questionable business practices. If you decide to do the research, let me know what you come up with

No goop to be seen in my BB+, just some scratched out component values.

My BB preamp was gooped. I was really annoyed since I like to tinker with op-amps to personalize my sound. I also like to tinker with amps (not all) to get my own sound. I would rather make some changes myself rather then send it back to a builder or modder or sell/flip it to try something else. :)

I've been through 3 BB preamps and 1 BB+ and none were gooped.

nothing is worth the trouble to un-goop and copy, everything I had that was gooped sounded like shit anyway. BTW, my BB's were never gooped.
Perhaps there is a relationship between goop and shit that extends beyond the visual.

well the Fulltone has it cause Mark was involved. For the most part people dont want you to know that its the same old parts that have been used since pedals were invented. Nothing new under the sun. But daily people get suckered into paying $300 for a boost pedal.

I'd be PISSED if I got a mod from somebody and they gooped the shit out of it; come to think of it, I've actually had that conversation

I don't know or care enough to reverse engineer anything, but the idea of someone putting epoxy all over my amp is not appealing :D
I would be pissed too. I would actually charge the modder double for gooping my shit. :D

Fools goop their products. It makes people want to degoop them and expose the (often) complete lack of originality or blatant theft of earlier designs. Anyone that really wants to get into clone deterrence would start building and installing red herring components and relabeling parts. Make it so that every part needs to be removed and measured in order to deterime what is happening. Add dummy components. If you want to goop, make a module that you solder in with off-board wires so the amp can be returned to stock without needing a massive amount of degooping work. The photos of cameron amps I have seen are disgraceful. If I received one of those amps from him I would immediately degoop it and post every detail of the mod. If it wasn't gooped I would surely let it be.

Re-labeling, red herring components, dummy components... All a waste of time... just like the gooping...
