I had the displeasure (just kidding) of hanging out with 4 drummers the other day. They were talking tech talk and about other drumers and what not. All 4 of them had nothing good to say about Charlie from Anthrax. I couldnt believe my ears. It turned into a 4 on 1(me) arguement on the topic. I think Charlie is an animal. I know hes not super techincal like Chris Adler but C'mon - you gotta love that blast beat!

He invented the blast beat and over the years has had so many flavors to his drumming, its really mind blowing. Love his drumming. But im a huge Anthrax fan.

Well I've always thought him to be an awsome drummer Anthrax is one of my favorite metal bands of all time and S.O.D. I remember after a S.O.D. show back in 1999 in Saint Louis I think. Charlie came out and was signning autograph's with the guys from nothing face and crowbar and this guy was asking him about a demo he had and Charlie told him to pull his car arround and put the tape in while we were all talking . While this was going on he called someone and told them about this demo and and set up some kind of meeting for the guy with the demo . Seemed cool as hell to me so he always played like a beast but after I met him that night I always thought that was cool of him to take the time out and make sure that he talked to us the fans some guys forget that the fans are your bread and butter .

Charlie is one of the best drummers out there. No doubt about it. I wouldhave backed you up in that 4 on 1. :gethim:

What gets me is that you never hear about him in drummer mags. At least I never see it. Thrax is one of my fav bands ever.

Hey, anyone see this dan nelson guy yet?

Charlie rocks. He does some incredible stuff on We've Come For You All. He really pushed his drumming up a notch on that album.

he wrote all the music for the records as well ......not many people know that
everyone thinks its scott ian who contributed nothing

Great drummer......when he wants to be. Much respect for inventing the blast beat (SOD - Milk - 1985). First 3 Anthrax records he could keep up with Dave Lombardo. Then all of a sudden, on State of Euphoria and after he replaced the standard thrash beat with a psuedo polka one-two one-two beat. Never liked that.

He rarely does fills but despite that he's still an innovative metal drummer. And yes his drumming did go up a notch of We've come for you all.
