So I've been looking at building a partscaster lately and I've noticed there are a ton of "NEW" charvel and fender bodies and necks being sold separately on ebay. Does anyone know why these sellers are parting out so called new guitars? Just thought it was kind of strange. Could they be 2nds, defects or something?

The return is simply bigger for the seller when they're parted out.

Rupe is correct. Reliable Fender is one that has been doing it for years. They buy tons of guitars up and strip them down and part them out. Big business in it.

Cool. I just didn't want to end up with a jacked up neck if I bought one.

While I have parted out a few guitars in my time, what I find ridiculous is when they part out guitars with color matched headstocks or limited edition guitars.

The top Fender/Charvel parts seller on ebay is Stratosphere aka Reliable Fender Parts. He is a Fender/Charvel dealer. Fender will not allow him to sell or advertise guitars on ebay. So he takes new Fender products and disassembles them and sells the parts on ebay, probably making more than he would selling the complete guitars.
I have bought new Fender stuff from him several times. The advantage is that you can get the specific part you're looking for, many times parts that Fender does not sell, (separately) like specific pickups or a certain neck or body.
