Will Sam Ash allow haggling online or in store?

There are some things in stock there that I want to get. An acoustic in the $600 price range, that does not come with a case, an oaisis humidifier, a hygrometer, 12 pack of dunlop nylons, and a gator case. I am having a horrible time ordering throgh paypal, and for some reason it wont let me... also they dont ship to APO's and I would have to have my Father order it for me and then pay him to ship it to me. Once all is said and done, the bill comes out to $750. I was thinking that I could talk down the price to at least $100 off or just have them throw me in the gator case for free or a free epiphone case that would fit a dreadnaught. What are your guys experiences with Sam Ash in particular? Has anyone had success in talking them down over the phone for online purchases... being that it is items that they have in stock and dont have to order? I would think its just like walking into the store and being able to haggle down. I got great deals doing this at guitar center, but how is it with you guys who have tried this at Sam Ash personally? Any luck? Anyone that can let me know will help me to be able to gauge this experience and not walk into it blindly. Also if you have any guys that are just awesome to deal with at Sam Ash and you know they would hook one of your fellow Rig Talkers up, give me the details in a PM if you dont feel like posting inside here, I would respect that. They did the last time I bought something there (48th St). That was '88 though :D
 
That sure was a long time ago. Do you remember what it was that you talked them down on?
 
I'm sure they'd throw in a case if you pushed. Just convince them that you'll go somewhere else if they don't.
 
Yeah, a case for sure... but overall I would like %20 off the total purchace. I have pulled better deals than that working with guitar center, so I dont think I am being unreasonable.

Depends on how badly they want a sale. You're buying completely new gear from a warehouse and asking for a discount - from their stance - just 'cause. With Guitar Center, you've got a ton more factors involved. I'm not sure what kind of deals you've worked out before, but from my experience, 20% means something's missing parts or damaged. 15% is a damn good sale, and 10% is more typical.

Best of luck to you though; it's certainly possible.
 
Normally I convince them that if its in stock (diplayed on the floor), then its been run through more than gbsmusic avitar... and that its in used condition in my eyes. I get lucky and get about %30 sometimes, but never all the time! It takes a whole lot of processes to get approved, starting from sales associate, to floor manager, to GM usually... but I work things out, or I leave without paying. Sometimes they dont want to do it and dont buy my bullshit, but most times I get damn close to what I want to spend!
 
The key target is 40% off of list price for most items. Stores usually mark prices about 20% off, so you can clearly get it above the 30% off range. They probably own it for 60% off list, so it is possible to get it for 50% off

I have heard this, and most of the times when I went into a guitar center I went by this theory. Most of the time it would work for me... but sometimes they just wouldnt budge and I would have to walk out. Thanks for the refresher, but it seems like I cant get those kind of deals anymore... go figure, the economy is shit and they get more defensive towards haggling!
 
Online has nothing vested in giving you a deal. Prolly not allowed anyway. It's not attached to a stores sales numbers so....
My Sam Ash in Hollywood is amazing, but I've developed a rapport. Your mileage Definately will vary. Carry cash, and have a firm price in mind.
 
I used to work at Sam Ash. What happened about halfway through my time working there is that they adopted a chain wide policy of 10% discount at the most. We did not do ANY deals shot at the hip anymore, and would only do the 10%. I myself can't even go there and get better than 10%, and I left the company on good terms and still talk with the store manager and quite a few of the employees who still work there. Your chances of getting a deal are sadly probably not going to happen. The days of haggling were awesome though. We did way more business then.
 
Great news... I got them to match %15 off that Musicians Friend had going on during the Veterans Day sale... Took a few times to get him to go as low as that, and I even got him to knock off another $40 since I have to have my Father ship it to me, since musicians friend will ship to me for free. What I got was

All for $585 shipped, when it should have cost $775... Im pretty stoked! This is the only music equipment I will have for a year, and seeing that these Masterbilt cutaways in vintage sunburst are nearly impossible to find, Im really excited that I got all of this cheaper than what a new masterbilt would cost at list, which is near impossible to find one right now. I got there last one and couldnt be any happier! HNGD for me indeed!
