Will Shiva anniversary or Soldano SLO do thrash?

Hey guys,
I have a jvm410 head right now but have beenwanting to try a Soldano SLO or Bogner Shiva anniversary head. I know they have some great tones and are built like rocks but can they give you that old school thrash hot rodded marshall type sound with or without a boost?
I can only afford to keep one head so any opinions would be helpful. I play a 7 string, some newer metal but mostly older metal ie...Slayer metallica megadeth also a bit 80's metal as well as some blues and cleans
thanks to all

The Shiva is not the right amp for thrash, the SLO however will deliver in spades.

even with the Shiva anniversary? I know it is supposed to have more gain than the regular shiva

The Soldano will, of course. Great amp. I've never played the Shiva Aniv. so its hard to say, but in my experience any good rock amp can be great for metal as long as you boost it with a Tube Screamer (or similar variant).

I used a Shiva on a recent recording, we wanted to use it for metal sounds but it just couldn't hang even with a boost.

that being said I'm sure it could do metal but you're asking about thrash and pitting it against the SLO which is IMO no contest.

I'm sure you could race with a Volkswagen but why not just get the Ferrari, yunno.

Shiva in my opinion can do classic thrash easily with a boost, but not the modern stuff.

yeah, not too interested in the more modern tones even though I do play 7 string...as long as it can handle the lower tunings on occasion....more of a fan of the pissed off mid heavy sound

The Soldano will sound great as long as you boost it to tighten it up. One with a depth mod would be better, or just get an Avenger.

Not in my opinion. You want thrash? Boosted Marshall, Elmwood M90, Engl, Diezel, or Mesa.

Edit maybe tray a Suhr CAA SE+

of course they can do thrash
back in the 80's, thrash metal bands played with stock JCMs, hiwatts, plexis

the shiva has a big amount of gain
just has to be dialed right
a SLO won't need any trick (although I like it better with a boost)

I just wouldn't buy those amps FOR that, since there are so many more appropriate amps

thanks for the input guys....and like I said, I lik the JVM but if you have suggestions, I would love to hear them....guess i have that always looking for the next best thing problem lol

Yup. There is more than enough gain for thrash. Just needs to be tightened up a bit with a boost.

That sounds kind of muddy/messy for thrash imo.

I'm sure a boost would help.

The older Shiva's are just a plain bad match for thrash, at least my old 2004 model was.

You want a JCM800 or JMP 2203 and then boost with a pedal, end of story. Almost all the bands form the 80's used this and if their sound is what inspires you then why not get what they used. I wouldn't use anything else if I was doing any kind of cover band or tribute from the Thrashin' 80's. Plus you won't be spending an ungodly amount of money like on an SLO. Plus everyone should have at least one good 6 knob Marshall as nothing can do what they do and they cover so many great tones from the 70's and 80's.

Not saying I wouldn't mind having an SLO, just not practical for me money wise.

Actually a 5150 might not do a bad job on 80's thrash. Maybe a Mesa MKIII too.

VHT/Fryette Deliverence with a pedal.

Tophat Emplexador MKII on the modern setting with a hot humbucker will do it without a pedal.
