Hey gear sluts :)

For festivals this summer I'm looking for a reliable and good sounding wireless system. I read many reviews about radio VS digital systems VS jack cables and didn't manage to separate the bullshittin' from the haters. Some say digital wireless systems such as the Line6 G50 sound empty and sterile in comparison to jack cables. Others say such thing is crap.

What's your opinion? What's your experience? ...I'm curious to hear it.

Thanks for your time.

The Line 6 relay series is top notch. Been using it for about a year now...no issues whatsoever and no tone loss to my ears.

Get a Line6 G50, thank me later.

Works great, used mine for probably 40+ gigs, using modelling and high end tube amps (axe fx, kemper, bogner ecstasy 101B, VHT UL, Mesa Roadking, etc).

Anyone who says they sound sterile is hearing something different than I am. I compared mine to a cable I made with G&H plugs and Canare GS6, I could NOT tell the difference between the two.

2xAA batteries last at least a gig (my gigs are usually three sets, around 3-4 hours of music).

Pete

Not sure where you read the Line 6 Relay sounds empty, but as a certified HATER of wireless systems, the Line 6 Relay wireless is the best sounding wireless I have ever used. I would never use another wireless system.

Another vote for the G50 here. Been using mine for about 3 years now. I've done several outdoor bike rally's on the big Bud Light stages and have never had any issues with it. I would recommend upgrading the cable from the one that comes with it though. You can get them at http://www.lavacables.com with just about any high end brand you want. I went with Mogami and Canare with Nuetrik right angle silent switching jacks cause I switch guitars quite a bit in one of my bands. On a side note if you have the money, you can buy extra transmitter packs from Sweetwater and have packs on each of your guitars. Kind of cool.

Another Line6 G50 user here. Sounds phenomenal, built to take a beating, affordable price point. What else do you need?

What kind of pouch do you use to attach it to your strap? I've read that the Neotech pouches from Musicians Friend are way too tight and they don't seem to have much of a selection outside of that brand. Suggestions?

Line 6 Relay series should be the new industry standard as far as I'm concerned...

The G90 rack unit is a complete fucking tank, lasted me multiple tours... sounds INCREDIBLE (in that you can't even tell it's there) and has never even so much as cut out once...

I know the G50 is supposed to be pretty sturdy too... the G30 or whatever the lowest cost one is called has more plastic components... so take that into account...

Played a venue with a couple big name national bands... and for whatever reason EVERY piece of wireless gear was completely useless at this place... my Line 6 was the only unit that still had zero problems... happy to say one of my HUGE guitar idols who everyone here knows used my wireless that night :)

....true story

The Neotech pouches work great. I use one with my Relay.

i just recommended and helped install a pair of line 6 v75 handheld wireless mics at a local school today.

even though it operates on the 2.4ghz freq range associated with wifi networks, i tested the system next to 2 known wifi networks and in close proximity to a 5 watt radio transmitter, and the L6 receiver was sitting a foot from an active shure wireless dual receiver.
not only did the unit's internal scanner ignore the competing wifi/radio traffic, even though it detected it, it showed full signal strength even when i was in a closed cement room with the mic 100 feet away and never even tried to hiccup.

fcc compliant, mic modeling technology, flexible rack mounting configurations, encrypting for security measures (the company i contract with services clients like department of defense where classified technological developments discussed at conferences require transmission lockout from casual clandestine interception)

they may not be neumann ksm 104/105 stage mic fidelity but easily comparable to a beta58. i preferred the audix om5 model as it had similar punchy presence and off axis noise rejection qualities of the real mic, something that becomes a premium when speaking to a cafeteria full of rambunctious elementary school kids!

G50 or G30; Line 6. I would go with the G50 if you have the cash. Every one I know swears by them.

wow. so many people dig the line 6 systems. i had the original x2 rack unit and i thought it was horrible sounding. are the line 6 units improved from the x2? i personally have nothing but good things to say about shure.

Hey guys,

Thank you so much for your time and feedback. I see many of you are Line6 G50 converted. I'll order one in the next 5 min...

First festival takes place next thursday. This will give me an opportunity to try it out quite fast. I'll let you know how I feel by then. But reading all your positive posts make me think I won't be disappointed. :)

Take care,
Ulrich

+1 for the Line 6 G50 system. Very happy with mine.

Love my G50. Sounds just like the guitar through the amp.
