Anyone had good luck with any of the more recent wireless units for guitar?

I haven't tried a wireless in at least 15 years, back then the tone difference is very noticeable, you just can't beat a $10.00 cord, I will always use a cord.

What type of music do you play? If you swing your axe around I would honestly advise against it. While the only wireless system I ever used was a mic, I have been in bands where the guitarists have employed them. In the vast majority of cases it was short lived. They're a pain in the ass and if you're like me I never remember to replace the battery.

This being said I had a good experience with Samson. Sennheiser also makes a quality product.

I play classic rock and metal. I actually have the Sennheiser In Ear system and love it. I just got a Sennheiser guitar system on loan from one of their sales reps....its the high end version...almost a grand...but it clips if Ive got the sensitivity set to anything less than -20 DB....which alters the tone terribly. I had a Nady from the late 80's that sounds great, but the pack is broken and the power supply is intermittent. Maybe there is something funky about this demo version.
Thanks for the replies.

The X2 stuff is supposed to be amazing, not compressing or changing your tone too much. Supposed to be the best option out there. They're very reasonably priced for what you get. I will try one out in the next year or so. Buy from somewhere with a 30 day return policy, that way if it sucks, just send it back.

I've gone through and tried a lot of wireless systems, from expensive to budget.
Here are my favourites and I still own them.

Nady 201 VHF True Diversity..old school. Still works great, no tone change to my ears. 9 volt battery lasts at least 2 full nights (3x50min sets)

X2 Rack Version. No tone change, very cool battery meter on the Rack and beltpack. 9 volt battery only lasts 1 gig (3x50min sets).

I would highly recommend the Nady 201(the old original) if you can find one. The last one I bought I scored on Ebay for $9.95usd plus shipping in mint condition...it's definitely a keeper :)

I actually have the 201...and I remembered the body pack being broken...but its actually just the battery cover now that I dug it out. I'll have to find a power supply for 12 volt, but should be good to go! Thanks for the reply!

Tried it...little bit of signal loss in the gain dept, little bit of top end and small amount of bottom. I have the choice now which is cool.
Thanks all!

There is a trim pot inside the beltpack, I think may increase the gain also check the output level pot on the receiver....mine actually has more gain than a cable.

So you're saying that the Nady is better than the X2? and how do you setup the Nady unit? it's not a rack size unit so where do you put it in your rack? thanks!

They are both good units, the Nady doesn't eat batteries like the X2. I use the X2 in my rack at the moment, but I wouldn't have an issue if I had to use the Nady.
I have a generic rack thingo that the Nady sits on with dual lock.

I've been using a Nady 201 for over 15 years. It doesn't alter my tone and battery life is great. Plus you can score them on eBay for well under $100 these days.

Adjusted the trim pot(Which I forgot the unit even had:) and all is good. Thanks Mark. You just saved me a bunch of cash!

In the past few years I've had an x2, a shure pgx14, and the senn ew172. The Sennheiser was notably better than the other two. Had no problems with clipping with it set to 0.

I used the nady 201 for about 14 or 15 years. I thought it was great until I tried anything else.

Hmm..interesting. I think the subtle losses that any wireless is subject to present are easily masked within the context of a live mix.

I have a Shure ULX I am very happy with. Not cheap, but really good.

Exactly the same problem with clipping in my case. The X2 is good, one thing that became an issue for me was the battery clip. The leads are short, pulled one off replacing a battery, had to lengthen both. Works much better now. I don't like the cheap plastic transmitter, at least compared to the metal Sennheiser - which is also smaller. But I had a big clipping issue with the Sennheiser. My pickups aren't that hot.

X wire still rocks if you can find one. I have a broken one, no where to get it fixed.
